Hi there, I discovered that this combination makes a really good sandwich:)

Fresh baguette with a little scooped out of the middle when sliced
Mozzarella cheese shredded
Roast beef (carefully chosen at the deli, you wouldn't believe what some of those meats contain!!!)
Very thinly sliced cucumber
Romaine lettuce

Pretty tasty! The cheese & cucumber almost make up for the lack of mayo! (But not quite, sorry)

How do you go about choosing your deli meats? Do you ask at the counter for the least amount of nitrates, etc.? Your sandwich sounds real good.

Thanks,
Lyn

I don't buy the prepackaged stuff, I buy the meats sliced at the counter and ask the person there to show me the package so I can read the label. I choose whichever looks "safest" to me, has the least amount of chemical sounding ingredients and no soy filler. (I'm allergic to soy)

When I have a lazy Sunday afternoon at home, I buy a turkey breast & roast it myself! 1-1/2 hours later- Sunday night dinner with carrots & mashed potatoes! And sandwiches for the week too. (Though I think roast turkey with cucumber slices might be strange.. :)

This combination is good on hamburgers, too. It's not as good as the conventional condiments, but better than plain and dry. Sometimes I use cream cheese instead of mozarella and that is really good with the cucumber slices.
