View Full Version : Stomach bug??

I have been SO sick for the last 2 days. I know should be eating something but everything just comes right back up. I'm even having a hard time keeping my zofran ODT down. So I'm kind of stuck using phenergan suppositories. Even then I have no appetite, I just don't feel like I'm going to throw up. I'm also having a hard time with my pain meds which means my bladder is hurting SO bad. I called my pcp and (I know this from friends) she said there is a bad bug going around and it lasts from 3-5 days. I'm going in tomorrow to have my blood checked because even though I'm trying my best, I'm afraid I'm dehydrated because my IBS is also going crazy. Then last night my husband told me "you've got to get better by March so we can go to the couples retreat for my CEO group". That means a road trip from north of Dallas to Austin. I'm HOPING and PRAYING that I'm "better" tomorrow. But when he said that I just felt like he was saying "GET BETTER!!!". Needless to say I started crying and then I threw up. He felt bad and I know he didn't mean I'm not trying or I'm making this all up but it just felt that way. He's been my biggest support and I KNOW it's hard on him. But that really hurt.
Does anyone have any suggestions for foods that are really really bladder friendly that might help an upset stomach. I'm just miserable.

So sorry Katie, know when you feel like that the thought of any food makes you want to puke. Maybe sips of root beer, tiny bites of anything. Just don't put a big plate in front of yourself, it will turn you off ASAP. Maybe a soft boiled egg with some toast? Always remember when we were kids some toast with a little butter and cinnamon was soothing. Maybe a few sips of chicken broth? Or warm milk? There is a lot of stuff going around everywhere, it is that time of the year. Just don't let yourself get dehydrated, don't want to see you end up in hospital. Ice chips? If you have snow you can make a snow cone with a little pear or blueberry juice and nibble on that. Hope you feel better soon, the important thing is to stay hydrated. Dehydration in itself could cause flare. Take care, Jill, wife of Bob

If I'm nauseated, saltine crackers are usually what I can eat before I can eat anything else. I eat them very slowly so I don't get too much at one time.

Oh yuck! It's no fun being nauseated!
When that happens to me I usually start with saltine crackers, graduate to toast with butter, and if all that stays down I'll move up to scrambled egg with toast. I'm sure you know it's really important that you drink enough to ward off dehydration. Can your IC handle peppermint tea? I've always heard that peppermint is good for an upset stomach though I've never tried that myself when sick. I'm usually just thrilled if I can keep down plain old water!
