trying elmiron once again

I attempted to take elmiron about 1-2 months ago, but stopped when the gastric symptoms became hard to live with.

Now my uro wants me to try it once more, this time with a lower dose. I've read on the bb that the capsule itself may be the problem, so my question is this:

If I split the capsule and dump out the medication into a glass, won't this taste like cr@p? Does elmiron have a taste?

Taking Elmiron out of the capsule and either stiring it in a glass of water or just emptying it on your tongue doesn't taste like anything. It virtually has no taste, I thought so anyway.

I too, suffer from very bad stomach problems when I take Elmiron, I have tried it several times, even taking it out of the capsule but it still has the same effect on me. I wish I could take it though because it does help my IC.

I dump the Elmiron capsule contents into a small glass of water and drink it. I agree with Traysmum, it really doesn't have any flavor at all. A bit of residue does remain in the glass so I add more water and drink that, too, to make sure I get the entire dose. It really isn't bad taking it this way. In the beginning, I had headaches from the capsule but taking the Elmiron out of the capsule solved the problem for me. Surely hope this method will resolve your side effects, too!

:confused: I used to and still get upset stomachs from time to time and I thought that taking Elmiron 3x per day was maybe the cause. I didn't even think about the capsule. Perhaps I shall try the contents in a glass of water.

Just when you think you have to live with IC and all that comes with it, you find another way to help yourself.

OK, tomorrow I'll just empty the capsule into the glass, no worries about any bitter or awful after-taste.

So far, so good. . . I am having less gastric upset by emptying the capsule into the glass like everyone suggested.

Thank you Annie. I have started to empty the capsule into a glass of water and so far so good. Hopefully this will end my upset tummy that I get from time to time.:)
