I sometimes take pain medication to get through the work day. I wonder: what would my employer think if they knew. I am fortunate that it doesn't make me too drowsy to function, but what might an employer do? Has anyone had such an experience?

I'm retired now, but I never made a secret of the fact that I needed pain medications at times. My employer also knew about my IC. It never made any difference in how I was treated on the job.

I think a lot of people take some pretty powerful pain meds on the job. If it does not interfere with your ability to do your job I feel no one needs to know. If you have to tell them anything tell them as little as possible. You might want to look at the info on disability on this website. You don't want to creat more problems for yourself in the future.

One more little note. Where I worked (hospital) it was important that I have with me the prescription bottle with the pain meds.
