Hi all!
I am experiencing a nasty yeast infection that WILL NOT go away!! My GYN gave me a Diflucan a few days ago, but I still have the burning and itching! I have tried everything that I can to get rid of it!!!
I guess what I am looking for is some type of homeopathic cure. I have been doing lots of research on the internet, but really haven't found many answers. There is something called "Threelac" that has lactobalilli but is VERY expensive. ( has anyone used it?) I have tried Monostat, hydrocordizone cream, vinegar baths, avoiding anything with yeast, sugar, etc. Is there any herbal remedies that anyone knows about? Any and all ideas will be MUCH appreciated! I'm almost at the end of my rope!!!:headbang: It has been going on for 8 weeks now and is really getting me down. I am trying to be positive and hope that there is something out there!!! Thank you all for listening and may GOD bless you all!
Hugs, Rita :grouphug:
Rita,
I can't offer you anymore than what you have tried. I do suggest contacting your Dr. again and let him know you are still having trouble.

I can only tell you what has worked for me. That is...eating yogurt (which replaces the "good" bacteria) and also acidophilus milk. I'm not a doctor by any means, however, if these are foods you can eat, they are worth a try. It has worked for me in the past! Many times. If you try this remedy and it works for you, please let me know! It is much cheaper than the medications!

When I was younger I would get a yeast infection just before my period was to start every month! I was running to the Dr. all the time. They didn't have the OTC stuff like they do now.
This is what worked and didn't work for me.
Monastat sometimes worked but what worked best for me and if I were to get it again this is what I use. Vinger didn't work!
Douche with 2 oz acidophlus mixed in 4 oz water (distilled is best)
every morning for 1 week. If I didn't have the acidophlus I would use plain (no strawberries please he-he) yogurt straight. I know this will really sound funny but a turkey baster is what I used in a pinch. Otherwise you have to figure your own way to spoon it in.
Call me :loco: but it worked for me. One other thing that I tried and worked peel one clove of garlic and insert it you know were for a couple hours............but this I promise, you better like garlic cuz you will smell reallllly bad for at least 24 hours . I almosted killed my boyfriend ..he hated garlic and would come to see me until the air had cleared:D
Hope something work for you. I know how horrible they can be.
E-mail me any time ..gypsymamajoy@aol.com

I have have been using AZO YEAST it is homeopathic and has been helping me some. I think I have an infection on both my toung and vagina.....but I need to treat this as naturally as possible so I am glad it is making a difference.
Best of luck to you.
Others gave good advise too.

I hate to even think of the yeast infections I used to get. They were awful. I always got them after eating too much sugar (Halloween, Easter, Christmas) or after taking any kind of antibiotic.
My guess is if you are on medication or antibiotics, this could be the reason you can't get rid of the yeast, even if you are trying to treat it.
Some remedies I have tried are the garlic clove as mentioned above. Seems like it helped the itching, but didn't do much for the yeast itself. Also a remedy called Pulsatilla (Homeopathic) is recommended for "female" problems, but I never had much luck with it treating yeast. The vinegar and water in a sitz bath offered temporary relief and plain yogurt inserted just before lying down helped with itching. As a last resort and probably not a good idea, my husband applied lidocaine to himself before intercourse. It felt great, but probably aggravated the problem, because the more you scratch, the worse it can get.
Oh, and Yes I forgot about "Yeastguard". That is homeopathic too, and I like using it better than Monistat.
What is in the formula for AZO?

AZO YEAST HAS: Each tablet represents Boneset (Eupatorium perfoliatum) 5x, Mistletoe Leaf (Viscum album) 6x in a natural base containing Lactobacillus Sporogenes, Cellulose, Lactose and Maltodextrin.
Hope that helps you.

Thanks, Katrina. I hope I don't get any more yeast infections, but if I do I'll try it. I noticed they had AZO at the drug store I usually go to.
I use a boric acid douche every other day. It really works as a preventative-I don't think it would get rid of an active infection.

There are many things that can help prevent yeast infections, but they are not usually very effective once you have an active infection --- or they can take weeks and weeks to do anything.
I agree with the suggestions that you go back to your doctor until you are rid of this infection.
Also, if you are sexually active, your partner should probably be checked if the infection keeps coming back --- there's always the possibility you are being reinfected.
Warm healing thoughts,

i do what my mother did when she had hers. I can't tell you it will help you but it does me.
i take white vinger in a warm washtub just with some mild soap.
after i go pee i wash my private parts with this instead of useing tolit paper it stops the iching and the burning for me. and it doesnt hurt my IC.
my yeast infection is gone within two days.
I hope this helps you some but if you have tried everything else and nothing else has worked it is worth a trie i know we are al diff and what effects one may not effect the other.
so please know this is what i do not everyone else with ic.
sending you hugs and prayers

I use Tea Tree Oil suppositories - cheaper than the OTC stuff and much more soothing. Buy them at any health food store - around $11 for 6 of them. I keep mine in the fridge so that they are nice and cooling. Just wear a little pantyliner during the day so that they don't leak out on your clothing. I use them at night but if mine was bad, I'd use one in am and one before sleep. The tea tree oil is a natural antifungal and it's worked really well for me. Another method is to mix some straight tea tree oil with water, dip a tampon in, and insert it. That hasn't worked so well for me in terms of getting it in while wet, etc. plus I like how cool and moisturizing the suppository is (it's just vegetable oil plus the tea tree oil).

I wanted to thank you all for all of your great ideas! I'm not sure if the yeast is still there or not now, but I am still itching and red. I tried to get back to my GYN, but can't get in for another week!:help: So, I am definately going to try some of your ideas! It is so GREAT how everyone here in the IC Network is like family and how everyone helps each other in our time of need. Thank you all! A BIG group hug :grouphug: Rita_Lorraine

I have Recurrent Yeast Infections, so I am on Boric Acid Capsules forever!! It really is helping though, I love those little capsules!
One more thought, have you been checked for Vulvodynia? It can give off the same symptoms as a yeast infection. I have both. Ick.

Just a suggestion-- is it possible you have a bacterial vaginal infection? I sometimes get those instead of yeast infections when I'm on an antibiotic. The doctor usually prescribes clyndomycin cream for 7 nites. Bacterial vaginal infections can also cause discomfort, burning and itching. liz
