Does anyone know whether dried cranberries or cranberry powder in a capsule cause the same reaction as cranberry juice? Is it just as acidic? My uro couldn't tell me the answer, and I remember reading on one of the posts that someone was able to tolerate cranberry in capsule form but not in juice form. Anyone have any info on this? Thanks, liz

I took the pills - boy was that a BAAAAAAADDDDD idea for me. I'd be very careful about it. If you want to , start with one, don't have anything else that might cause pain, and be ready to drink a LOT of water and take TUMS if symptoms develop.

p.s. the same component that is in Cranberry that helps to stop infections (which is why you'd take it) is also in blue berries, which are acidic but not as much, and also in the herb Uva Ursi - which isn't acidic at all. You can get that in capsule form, sometimes in combination with other urinary-tract calming herbs. Look at the health food store

I took cranberry extract in pill form. I ended up in the ER with a massive bleeding ulcer. This was over 11 years ago, and I still have a problem with a tendency for my ulcer to start bleeding at things that never would've bothered me before. Be careful!

Five and half years ago, when my IC just started but before I was diagnosed, I tried taking cranberry pills. I thought that I had a bladder infection so tried the cranberry pills to help. That was some of the worst pain I've ever had. There was even blood in my urine. I stay far away from cranberry in any form.

Before I was diagnosed with IC, one of the Uro's I saw told me on my first visit that I did not have IC, because I looked too good. I was lectured that day and its a wonder I didn't get put in a Psychiatric Ward after that. Anyway, she sent me home drinking cranberry juice and taking cranberry pills. Need I say more??? I have never again trusted those pills.
