I am currently stuck in the bathroom...been here for almost 2hrs now. Thank goodness I have a smartphone that lets me on the net. But holy moley batman this SUCKS!!! I don't know what threw me into this flare. Could it be food? Could it be my emotions since my grandfather passed away yesterday? I don't know. But I just want it to stop so I can at least leave this bathroom and get my TENS unit. I can feel my bladder spasming and I've tried to relax and breatheing techniques to no avail. I've had baking soda in water, which I have to say, mixed with Smart Water is GROSS!!! I just want to lay down. My bum hurts from sitting this whole time. Normally when I'm on this site it distracts me from my normal discomfort but right now its just screaming for attention and I can't ignore it. And every teeny tiny little void that happens to come along just feels more worst than the last one. WHY CAN'T I HAVE SOME RELIEF!!!!!

maybe u have a uti? or it could be food related. u shouldnt be stuck to the toilet like that. :( maybe you can see a dr asap. or go to ur drugstore and get AZO UTI pills. they turn ur pee orange but they should help with the frequency, discomfort, and spasms temporarily

I was going to say check for a bladder infection too. Try staying strict on the diet with very bladder friendly foods & can you call your dr. for a rescue medication? Feel better soon!!

I thing an emergency room visit could be a good idea for you --- it does sound like you could have an infection.

Hey guys! I'm actually doing better...it was a flare, did at home UTI test. For once though, this flare was more pain from urgency...so once I got some Prosed DS in my system (and a Xanax LOL) it calmed down. I slept with my TENS unit on and a heating pad to sooth my tense muscles. Thank you for your thoughts and suggestions. :)

Glad to hear you're feeling better! I have two comments... the first is, it sure sounds like the stress from dealing with the death of your grandfather may have contributed to this flare. Stress is a huge factor in determining my own IC symptoms, so I know how it feels!

Second thing is... please be aware that sometimes, infections don't show up on those strips, so if you get really bad again, it might be worth dropping off a urine sample at your doctor's office to be sure. The last thing you need is an untreated infection climbing up to your kidneys :grouphug:

I've been plugging along for four years and no flares. This year I've had 3. One in March that was treated with cypro and went away in a few days. Last month was bad as it lasted for three weeks. I took Proced which finally helped it go away. I started taking Hydroxyzine about three weeks ago and that was keeping me in good shape up until yesterday. I am expecting my period next week and am wondering if these flares are hormone related. I have polysistic ovarian syndrome and have been on trivora for about 10 years. I'm in my early 30's, so not sure if the hormones are all of a sudden going crazy or what. All I know it that this sucks and I can't afford to go to the uro all the time. I am going to see her tomorrow, so hopefully she can give me some relief.

Sarojini ..... Do you ladies know when you go to the drs and they "do or say they are going to send it to the lad and see what it grows" what exactly does that MEAN? I have been having so much URGENCY in the last couple of months and I am really trying to figure out if its a infection or what cuz is sure does feel like a UTI but I went to see Uro and he said sending it out but when I called the nurses said NO bacteria showed up on you test? does anyone know of Anything that might help with the URGENCY I don't know how long I can take it.

Ruth: When they send the speciment to the lab, it's to do a culture to be sure there isn't any bacteria there that didn't show up on the dip stick test most doctors offices do.

Ruth, if no bacteria "grew", that would mean its not a UTI. To help with the urgency, have you tried baking soda in water? It would help alkaline your body and might help with the urgency since it won't be like your peeing acid anymore. Do you know if you probably ate something that caused the flare? If so, you might want to be strict on the diet for awhile until your flare goes away. I really hope you feel better.

Question I did notice that Pyridium helps a lot with urgency for me? I wonder if I can take that when I am having really bad days?

Hi Curly, you sure can take Pyridium on your bad days, it could really help. I just know that they tell you not to take it for long periods of time because it could do some damage. What the damage is, I'm not sure, I can't take it cus it always gives me kidney pains for some reason. :)
