from what i have read it seems that everyone seems to have a burning pain after sex. does anyone else have a " someone stepped on my bladder" kind of pain? i have learned what positions to avoid and have gotten to where 75-80% of the time i have a good sexual experience these days. it is the next day when i hurt so bad and can't really do much of anything. it just feels like i've been pummeled in the abdomen and nothing i've tried except narcotics seem to get rid of that pain. any ideas?:(

Yes!! I used to get that pain. I found resting my bladder and using heat (regardless if it hurt right away or not) helped keep it from hurting. I would lay as still as possible using heat...and ice if needed to calm my bladder down right away.
If you have done that and it isn't working for you maybe someone else has an idea that can help you.

I'm with Katrina... heat and rest can definitely help with that kind of pain. I don't get that one as often as I get the burning after sex, but when I have had it, lots of heat helps... sitting in hot bath, heating pad, etc.

Some find that a warm pack helps, others feel cold works better.
I find what helps most is plenty of extra lubricant and cleansing afterwards with warm water.

I use heat packs, or sit in a hot bath!

I don't really get the burning, although occasionally I will in my vagina due to...ahem...too much friction? heehee.
Anyway, I do occasionally get that "stepped on" feeling, like I was punched where my urethra meets my bladder. When that happens, I try to relax and take a hyoscyamine bladder muscle relaxant if necessary - hot baths really help too.

I wanted to reply and say that I too on occasion get sever cramping after sex. I cant say that I have experienced the burning aspect. I usually take a pain pill, use the heating pad and try to fall asleep. What is weird is you nevber know when this will occur and for how long the pain will last. I have gone 45 miniutes of cramping all the way to 3 days (after sex) ON another note I wanted to sa That I too was diagnosed with IC after a severe kidney infection in 03. I wonder if there is any relation to IC and kidney infections. I had never had a UTI or kidney or bladder problems before that terrible kidney infection experience. HMMMMM something to ponder! Good luck to all!
