Hi everyone,
Just got back from the doctor today, and diagnosed with IC.... oh yay... (sarcasm is my friend:) ) Anyway, was wondering what big tricks in terms of diet are out there for preventing flares... I don't seem to have a very severe case of IC, seeing as I've only had the one flare so far. However, I obviously want to prevent as many as possible!!! I don't find that soda affects me (I love diet coke...) But am wondering what other things I should watch to see if they affect me. Also are there any foods/drinks/nutrients that help with IC flares??
Thanks for all your help!!!

May I ask a question? How were you diagnosed? Did you have a hydrodistention or a potassium test? Did your doctor say INTERSTITIAL cystitis, or just cystitis?

You'll find diet information in the Patient Handbook at http://www.ic-network.com/handbook

Unfortunately most IC patients find sodas are a problem, and diet sodas sweetened with nutrasweet even more of a problem.

Sending warm healing thoughts,
Donna

Hi Donna,
It's not 100 % yet, because I've only had the one flare. But the urinalysis showed all the signs of IC, even though regular cystitis runs in my family. Also, I have a friend with IC, and experienced pretty much all the symptoms she has with a flare. We're waiting to see how soon I have another flare before I go to a urologist, although my doctor is quite certain this is what it is...
