Is it approx. 6 months to get turned down and then you appeal which takes 6 months longer? would be grateful for your experience in this matter as urgent for me. thank you.

In some cases it can take a year or more. A few are approved quickly, though, so be sure you have your documentation complete.

I was turned down initially within 3 mo. Then, I appealed and was turned down again, within about 4-5 months. Then, I hired an atty (which I recommend), and this was for the hearing in front of the judge. In my state there was a 2 1/2 year wait to get in front of the judge. However, in my case, (because I had a previous suicide attempt), they appareantly thought I was too "mentally unstable" to wait that long. So, the atty talked to them and got me moved up closer to the front of the line b/c of that, but it still took about 8 more months of waiting to get to the "front of the line." The judge approved me that day. So for me, start to finish it was about 16 months.
From what I have read here, the longest ones I remember were about 4 years. The shortest (of course) were the ones who were approved right away and they were "instantly" approved in about 3 months, (but it still took approx another 3-4 mo to get their first check. (After I was approved, it was still another 3-4 months before I got my check. So from the time I applied to the time I got my first check it was about 19-20 months, (and that was with them moving me to the "front of the line" because of "urgent need" since they thought I was "mentally unstable".
Hope that helps answer your questions.

every IC patient case is different as we all know
Every state some backed up farther in cases and longer waits to hear approval
I was approved in 5wks time and I did my own case on line with no attorney
I had 22yrs medical records and 25yrs working FT with IC and could not do it anymore
I had two mds back me up my uro and my pcp= those are only two md they asked to file out papers no gyn, no pain md or no therapist
I wish u best.
It did not take me long to get my check dont remember but not an extended amount of time

It took me about 3 yrs. But the judge did go back to about 6 months after I had to quit my job. So I did get my back pay. Have you checked out the SSD packet you can buy on the ICA? Loads of good stuff in it.
Also, I have to agree with some of the others here. It all depends on what state you live in also. I live in Ohio and our state was yrs behind in processing, so much so they sent a lot to Indiana for processing.
Many hugs and blessings
