Just wondering if anyone knows whether exercise weight lifting causes it. iknow when i do core, it affects it.but does light weights and ligth jogging ok? any tips would be great

I know this is for men and IC but I am unable to even walk more than a little bit without pain within an hour. I think we are all different. Could you tell me what you are doing for Chinese medicine? I am doing acupuncture and some herbs which do help some but I am still flaring often.

I've done a good bit of exercise all along while having IC. I went hiking with my dog every morning and we pulled a few good hills but none of that really bothered me anymore than the pain I was already in.
Recently I started doing a little gym workout, just some light arm/upper body weights but I'm keeping away from anything that might strain the groin area at all.
Between the hikes and short/light weights I think I'm getting some good exercise and it feels good doing both.

i have arm and back pain too so that is out. I tried an eliptical for 5 min the other day and a couple hours later my bladder flared for the rest of the day. This is soooo depressing.

I'm 24yrs old and have given up on the whole working out institution. Its hard to get motivated when you feel like your whole personal area down there is on fire and bruised. So I really just focus on eatting right. I have attempted yoga but my patience for it is limited. =/

I don't even care about working out. Ijust want to be able to take a nice long walk. I eat right to so I keep my weight in check, but I am 40 and things are sagging and I hate not being able to do anyting about it!

It just popped into my head a little while ago that I saw these commercials for these new shoes that are designed in a way that supposedly makes each step a little work out for the legs and buttocks. I have no idea if they work or do anything at all or if they are hyped up over priced marketing scheme but if they do what they say then that might be kind of cool to get some extra exercise from the regular walking we all have to do.
If see the commercial again I'll try to find out more about them, might even consider them myself if there is real science behind the design.

Yea I tried those on in the store and walked in them for a few minutes. My back was killing me and I could feel myself tensing my legs and espeically mythighs and hip area. Not good!

Hi loraleena,
Oh okay yeah I guess they would have to pull, stretch or strain a person in some way to do anything like they claim. I was hoping that whatever the shoe did that it would be so subtle that it would not be noticeable. Wonder if they have or might come out with Light, Medium, Heavy strain levels on these type of shoes.
I hope you find something that helps you feel better in general and also allows you to take those walks you'd like.

If you're talking about the shoes that have curved soles that look kind of like rockers, I tried some on in a shoe store, stood up and almost fell on my nose! The rocking was totally unexpected. :) I ended up in the Nike store and got some really good walking shoes with stabilizers; I can walk in those really well without leg strain.

I just turned 40 myself. It sounds like I can exercise more than you can, but I wonder if you have tried yoga? It's great for toning to keep things from jiggling around, and I find that when I do it regularly, my IC symptoms improve, too.
I bought a yoga book created specifically for IC patients. I really like it, and it's pretty gentle stuff. It starts out slow and then you build up weekly. I'll PM you the name in case you are interested. I started doing it back when I was first diagnosed. I was in a lot of pain and I had to stop running, so for several months it was my only exercise.
BTW, I recently started doing more weight training stuff again. I did the pull up machine for the first time in a couple of years. My bladder is fine, but my arms and lats are killing me! :)
