I've been taking the Estrace cream every nights (1 gram) for several weeks to try to make up for the time when I quit taking it and got my old symptoms back.

Now I've been getting abdominal cramps in the middle of the night and a little diarrhea, loose stools, etc. and I saw that that can be a side effect. I have IBS and ulcerative colitis, too, but they have been in remission for many years.

I had the same problem with the estradiol and estriol vaginal creams, so I rub the dose into my abdomen and allow it to dry on its own. It works just fine this way. If you find that it is too much cream to work in, you can get it compounded with the same amount of estrogen into less cream.

Hope this information is helpful.

The intestinal upsets are a second level side effect with abdominal cramping being a more primary side effect.
Thanks for your help.

Estrogen cream is usually used 1 gram nightly for two weeks, then 1 gram twice a week. Check with your doctor, you may be using a larger dose than intended.
