Hi,
I hope this is not too personal.
In the last couple of weeks, I have developed a new symptom, rectal pain.
The pain is sort of an ache, with spasms, (not soreness like a fissure or hemarrhoid)(sorry about the spelling). It is there all the time, but seems to get worse after a BM. There also seems to be accompanying leg pain and pain in my tail bone.
I also am having more BM's and gas, and the urge to move my bowels all the time. I am not constipated btw.
I have been diagnosed with IBS, but I have had that for years without the above symptoms.
I also have a newly diagnosed cystocele.
Does this ring a bell with anyone? I am seeing my uro tomorrow re the cystocele so will ask him,but I wanted to see if I could get any input before I go to see him.
Thanks so much,
Laurie

Yes, it can definitely be a big part of the IC/pelvic pain syndrome. Depending on how much you've read or doctors you've seen, you may now be aware that IC is a syndrome that manifests in really different ways in different people...and the current understanding is that it involves nerves and muscles of the pelvic floor, hence those that support rectum and bladder....and since all the organs are so close together and the nerves so intertwined, there's a lot of crossover pain and symptoms. A great book is Ending Female Pain by Isa Herrera, and a good PT who specializes in pelvic pain should be able to help you a lot with rectal/bowel pain...and there are B &O suppositories that are very effective for those symptoms. My physical therapist really specializes in helping people like you! Contact me if you want more info. Nancy morgandea@gmail.com

I had severe rectal pain when I had a rectocele. Since it's a new symptom, it's good that you will be talking with your doctor about it.

Sending healing thoughts,
