Has taking fish oil helped anyone with IC symptoms? Such as pain and frequency?

That's a really good question~ I was taking fish oil caps for a while because I was trying to be healthier, but I got over that pretty quick! Already have 21 pills per day total to swallow, and just looking at a multivitamin and fish oil caps made me gag. Seriously when I walk I feel like I should be almost able to hear all the pills sloshin' around in my belly LOL.
Ok, all kidding aside.... has there been any information that fish oil would help? Because if it can really help bladder symptoms I can make myself take them. It would be so worth it! Have you tried them?

This may have nothing to do with the question of fish oil helping us with our bladder problems but I find it interesting. My dog was losing much of his hair due to a problem with the breed. He had runny eyes so the VET gave us fish oil because she felt he was allergic to pollen. Three months and wow his hair grew back! No one was more surprised then the VET but she said research has found fish oil is doing much to help animals with many problems such as joint pain. She cautioned me that since my dog is small not to give him people fish oil but use what is suitable for his weight. Is fish oil helpful for people with IC? I do not know. I'd like to hear what others have experienced also. Hugs, Ziggy

I tried it and it just gave me diarrhea --- plus I had a fish taste in my mouth. I tossed the caplets.

Ziggy - My cat has idiopathic cystitis (feline IC) and IBD - he is on fish oil, also recommended by my vet, and it helps him a lot. Fish oil has anti-inflammatory properties, so it helps with both his bladder and GI tract. My vet said he also prescribes it for older dogs and cats with joint pain and it helps them as well. I was worried about the diahreah on the fish oil, since my cat is very prone to diahreah and vomiting because of the ibd, but it doesn't seem to cause any problems that way. Also, as an added bonus, the fish oil completely got rid of his dandruff.
You can get the fish oil from your vet - or, even cheaper, order it online from Dr. Fosters and Smith.
