Does anybody find that walking causes pain? I've always walked for about 40 minutes in the morning (street walking) for exercise. Over the last two months I'm beginning to suspect the impact causes me to flare up. I'd hate to believe that, it's the only real exercise/stress reduction I get anymore. It doesn't hurt when I do it...but about 60-90 minutes later I begin to feel really bad. I feel really bad a lot of days though; so I'm never really sure exactly what causes it.

Hi Jenny. I like to walk also but there are days when I suffer afterwards. I find that I can only walk for about 30 minutes before I have to pee. Luckily I walk country roads because I can usually find a spot behind a tree. (if you know what I mean) haha. You gotta have a sense of humour. :D :D

have you tried bring water with you on your walk? or taking a shower right when you come back from your walk? I'm not sure if these will help, but it wouldn't hurt to try, I hope you don't have to stop walking, it's a shame that we have to think about it. Please keep us informed on how you are doing.

Actually, I don't go out to walk until I feel that my bladder is quite empty. Anything I drink or eat too soon before I go out just seems to go right through me. Lately, when I do go out and I try to go often, I am able to walk about 30 minutes without any problem.
For some reason unknown to me, afternoon walks affect my bladder less than morning ones. Maybe try that? Also, you might get some Dr. Scholl's insoles to reduce impact... :hmm:

Yep
Walking hurts me too. And because I can't get out I have gained so much weight. I am taking physical therapy now so maybe that will help tighten those sagging muscles.:D
I get really bad lower pelvic cramping and spasms.
I HATE IC, how about you guys?

Walking in the late morning or early afternoon is best for me. Even though I am a morning person I seem to run to the bathroom more in the early morning than any other time of day. I hate IC too!!!  I remember when I could walk and travel without any thoughts of having to pee and now that I have the time to travel, since I am now retired, knowing where the rest areas are is my main focus. I guess having IC is my cross to carry and I try to believe that it could be worse.
Walking doesn't seem to bother it, cuz usually when I can't fall asleep I go walking . Luckily I have 2 dogs up for anything lol. I am going to try running again, hopefully no problems.
Wishing u well,
Justine

Sometimes if I am having a slight flare, walking makes me feel good, but the minute I stop, the flare returns. I wouldn't say I get any worse afterwards. If I had to give up my walks, I would be hurting mentally!

Yeah,it hurts me to walk too! Sometimes it hurts just to walk to the bathroom! I also have severe pelvice pain! This disease can get really depressing, huh? I've gain weight from not being as active anymore!
I'm just beginning to walk. The other day, I was feeling kinda bad. I wish I could put it together with whether or not I walked that day. I'm going to have to pay more attention!

The only kind of walking that bothers me is walking very slow, like at an art show or looking at displays at a fair --- OR speed walking. As long as I walk at a leisurely pace, I can walk for miles.

As for me...walking sometimes causes severe pelvic pain. I hunch over and clench my legs together really tightly at times b/c of how much pain I experience. When I am at work, and feel the pain approaching, it becomes even more difficult simply because I don't like to be bowed over holding my stomach and walking like i am crippled. i am 25 1/2 years old and should be a very active and vibrant person. As a result of the IC, I have been forced to submit and sucumb to this illness that it prevents me from enjoying leisure activities. Hre recently, I ws to interview for a position with this remarkable company and i felt pain the entire week prior that I thought I would not be capable of performing my best. Luckily the IC ran its course and the night before the interview, I ironically was pain free and performed exceptionally well during the interview.
Oh, by the way, when I am in pain, I have found that high heel shoes don't help the problem. ...merely make things even more difficult.

Too much walking bothers me but standing is worse. I still walk 20 minutes a day 5 days a week but use my interferential unit afterwards (or during) to counteract the pain. Now I'm "nursing" a knee that is giving me trouble. But overall I do okay when walking at home. The carpet softens the impact of the walking. I enjoy the walking but it does wear me out. Nap time!

walking seems to bother me, but I try to keep walking for at least 20 minutes, usually in the evenings after work.
