Our local Lions Club (I'm President) supports a small community library, run 100% by volunteers and managed by a very dedicated and wonderful lady. I had a call from her husband early in the week to let me know she is ill and won't be available for the library for a few weeks. She's a very close friend so, in addition to concern for her, I've been looking after the library this week.

Our Lions meetings are held at our little fire station --- Tuesday evening when the trucks returned from fighting a field fire, apparently an ember was left on one of the trucks --- it ignited and severely damaged that truck, as well as the interior of the fire station. We are all very heartbroken for our volunteer firemen, as well as Lions things. Tomorrow several Lions will spend part of the day removing all of our property from there --- they will be completely gutting the station, will replace the roof and all of the interior walls.

The GOOD news is the pastor of our local church has volunteered to allow us to use that building for our activities. We'll be moving back into the fire station in about two months.

It's been a tiring week, but things will be better soon.

That's too bad! I imagine you'll be busy for a while. It sounds like you live in a community where people really pull together when there's a need.

Sounds like you have had a terrible week! But, it must be nice to live in such a caring and involved community that truly supports each other!

Hope things get better there soon, that the fire dept is restored very soon, and that the librarian's health is also soon restored.

Meanwhile, dont try to take on everything by yourself. Remember you do have a chronic illness that requires frequent rest breaks in order to be in top form. So, make sure you get plenty of others involved in keeping the library afloat so that you don't overdo it!

Sending hugs,
Amaranthe

Oh my goodness, I'd never thought of something like that ever happening! Glad you have an alternate facility to use in the mean time, but geesh, it's sad to have any damage at all!

I am a champion delegator! And help has been coming from everyone. I only worked one two-hour "shift" at the library this week --- I just need to go over there and see if I can get the printer working well --- the librarians have been calling and volunteering to cover extra hours.

And yes, I am very fortunate to live in a small, caring community where people work together in any crisis.

I am so glad that you have lots of volunteers of plenty of help. That is a tribute to your community to have that kind of staffing of volunteers. I am also glad to know that you are getting your rest.

A very tired Donna is heading for bed --- we did get all of the Lions Club's things out of the fire station and a shower removed the soot from my body! I couldn't believe it when I took my sandals off --- my feet were solid black except where the sandal straps hit. Happily the sandals are very washable.
