I've been on this for about 4 days now and I feel better than I've felt in 3 yrs. I'm taking almost double the dose for now and normal amount of glucosamine/condroitin. I'm afraid this posting is going to jinx myself so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I almost feel like I have my old life back. I did feel a little discomfort last night but nothing like it normally is. My IC symptoms have been mild or nonexistent in the AM when I wake up and as the day goes on gets worse and worse until I have to take a HOT bath at night and place the heating pad on my bladder to ease the pain. Right now I'm thinking to myself this is too good to be true but I'll update in another week

D-mannose is supposed to help prevent infections, but I don't think it actually helps IC.

I use Dmannose to prevent UTIs after sex. I take some before and after and drink a big glass of water . It has worked wonders for me. Keeps me UTI free. I am not sure of its use or effect with IC. But if it works for you, I dont think its harmful ( I am not a doctor). Its a simple sugar that goes right through you to your bladder and attracts ecoli bacteria to help flush them out of your system. If it helps you, I say keep trying it. Ask your doctor what they think isnt a bad idea either. Good luck!
Hi Donna....I stopped taking elmiron because during the day I'm usually OK. My dr. suggested D-mannose, but my research is showing it's for infections....I don't see anything in the "literature" about using it for IC. But I'm gonna try it just to see!

I was told by another Icer to try it I take Cleartract D Mannose powder a few times a day (a scoop in a bottle of water). That and 5,000 ui a day of Vitamin D and I have been doing this for a few months. My frequency is down tremendously, the pelvic pain and pressure is gone I barely know I have a bladder..Like before the pain was a constant reminder, now I can do anything and it does not get in the way! I only get a little discomfort after sex it feels like the bladder spasms a bit but i take a cold shower after and I am fine! I even tried to contact the manufacturer of the one I buy. I swear it has been a miracle for me. I do believe the higher dose of Vitamin D plays a huge role as well. I know most of us have very low levels of Vitamin D. Not sure the link there or if it has been studied yet but it is worth a try. Less than $40 for both and see if it helps.. why not...If anyone else tries it post on here how you are doing I am curious to see if it helps you or not. i know I am so grateful to the girl that told me about it. She also takes grapefruit seed extract and stuff to combat yeast. I was too but backed off on all of that, the only other thing I take is a immune defense I bought at Whole Foods which I haven't even taken that in awhile either. I do have to say that controlling my anxiety has helped too. i started taking Cymbalta and i have done a 360 with that drug, no more depression or anxiety...So I think it is a combination of things.. Good luck to all!!

shelly,
Glad to hear that the mannose has helped you. Good to hear you are in less pain. Cymbalta is a good anti depressant. Not sure if you are aware, but cymbalta also has some pain fighting properties. It is given often to individuals with the anxiety / depression with chronic pain conditions to help with the pain. This might have helped with your pain levels. But its good you found a regimen that works!
Shelly, thanks for letting me know your experience with D-Mannose. As for Vitamin D, I live in Florida and we who live here get so much sun we usually don't have to take D. Bluegoo is correct about the anti-depressant helping with the pain. I take Elavil every day in a small dose for the pain of fibromyalgia and IC. Most people are not aware that certain anti-depressants affect our pain centers, but other than the Elmiron, I think that has helped me the most in terms of pain AND anxiety. I don't think I'll ever stop taking that! I will go get some D-Mannose, tho, to see if I can get rid of the pain I have every night. It's gone during the day but I wake up in pain every morning, so let's see if it helps. I'm so happy you found something that helped you--I hope you continue to improve! Kat

I just found D-Mannose last week on the recommendation of a friend who swears by it. She takes 2 pills/3x day to keep her symptoms manageable and the lady at the health food store also swears it works. I was desperate for relief of bladder spasms and the urgenency feeling so I bought some. I took it every 3 hrs for 3 days (either 2 scoops or 2 pills) and it worked. I too was hesitant to say aloud that it worked but I have found that a dose at the first little twinge can keep the twinge from blowing up. My doctor had heard of it and gave his ok if I thought it worked and could keep my off another Rx.
Thanks, Kristina, I'm going to try it and I'll post the result in a few weeks.
