I just had an endoscopy yesterday and it revealed that I have Candidal Esophagitis, described as: Painful swallowing and oral lesions are symptoms of Candidal esophagitis, a fungal infection of the esophagus. Candidal esophagitis is treated with antifungal medications. Recovery is dependent on extent of immunosuppression. Basically a yeast infection in my esophagus I believe. They also found Gastritis.

I am 60 years old and have only had 1 yeast infection in my whole life until this IC thing has appeared. I have now had 3 since Feb of this year, including this one in my esophagus. I am on Diflucan 200mg for 14 days. Just wondering if anyone else has had this or even heard of it. I have considered myself a very healthy person all my life but now I just don't get it.....last week I was diagnosed with gallstones and yesterday's colonoscopy, diverticulosis in all my colon (I think this is pretty common??) on top of this candidal esophagitis. Oh, can't forget my IC friend either:lmao:

Guess these "Golden Years" are turning into "Medical Years".

Thanks!

Sorry to hear you are having so much piled up on you at once.

Do you take any steriods, I was using a steroid nasel spray. After I started using this spray anytime I take ab's at the same time I get yeast in the back of my nose and the pallet of my mouth.

Hope things go well for you. My husband diverticulosis too and over time we have learnt that he needs to get treatment at the first sign he maybe having problems, he used to put it off till he was really sick with it. If he gets treated right away the flare up is much shorter and much more controlable, of course he needed to be threatened with surgery to have part of his bowel removed to do this. He never goes anywhere without AB'd for it. The other thing is he gets really sick fast, over a matter of a couple of hours.

I really don't envy you with both problems because one will aggravate the other.

Good luck MG

Hi, MG ~

Thanks for the info on both the infection and diverticulosis. No, I don't take any steroids, well, I guess I need to find out if they're still using the Kenalog in the instills....Also, the last time I had a yeast infection (vaginal) they did give me a cream that was a steroid I think but only used a few days. I don't have any problems in my mouth, nose, etc. Just had difficulty getting some food down and sometimes food got stuck in my chest area...(very painful).

I've already altered my diet again to eliminate nuts now, boo hoo, and I have been able to eat popcorn, but guess that's out too. Oh, what the heck, I need to lose weight anyway! I meet with the doctor on Tuesday so I can ask additional questions then about how much I need to watch things or if it's mild....is that wishful thinking???

Again, thanks for caring and hope your hubby stays healthy and you're having a good weekend yourself.
