(Editors Note - The Pfizer study with Tanezumab and interstitial cystitis is one of the biggest studies currently under way. We have no idea, yet, as to what this could do to that study. We will add more info as it released!)

Pfizer Suspends Tanezumab Osteoarthritis Clinical Trial Program
Tanezumab Trials in Other Disease Areas Under Review by FDA

NEW YORK, June 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Pfizer Inc. (NYSE: PFE) announced today the suspension of the osteoarthritis clinical program for the investigational compound tanezumab following a request by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The worldwide suspension – which is effective immediately – follows a small number of reports of tanezumab patients experiencing the worsening of osteoarthritis leading to joint replacement. To date, this adverse event has not been observed in non-osteoarthritis patient populations taking tanezumab.

The clinical hold includes both the suspension of recruitment of new patients and the dosing of existing patients in the osteoarthritis program, as well as patients with osteoarthritis in other studies. The FDA has asked that, later this week, the company present its assessment of the potential implications of the adverse events in the osteoarthritis program for the other tanezumab clinical programs involving non-osteoarthritis patients, which include patients with cancer pain, interstitial cystitis, chronic low back pain and painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy. The company is actively working with the FDA, to determine the appropriate course of action, which will serve the best interest of patients.

Hi,

That's really disappointing to hear:( It sounded like they were excited about the potential of this drug at the AUA. I hope they are able to work out the kinks and resume the trials....

hope it works for IC but not good for arthritis causing patients to have to get total knee replacement.

My Dr has told me such good things about this drug, I am hoping that is the answer for many of us. Praying that it will still work out for us.

Pfizer will now be very afraid of lawsuits from patients claiming tanezumab caused their osteoarthritis to worsen. Monoclonol antibodies often have very severe side effects.

Hi,

I hope they don't pull it from the other clinical trials for the other disorders they're trying it on. I'm very encouraged by what Sandra is saying.

Hi,

I was watching the ICA's virtual AUA webcasts...there is one with Dr. Robert Evans talking about the potential of anti nerve growth factor drugs. So we know Pfizer has Tanezumab in clinical trials for IC right now. Dr. Evans mentioned that Johnson and Johnson have an anti nerve growth factor drug getting ready for clinical trials too. I noticed on the ICA website that Johnson and Johnson are going to be recruiting patients soon for a clinical trial for IC with their version. I'm confused... Are these two drugs really all that different? Wouldn't they be basically the same thing? Sorry if this is a dumb question....I'm just trying to make sense of this.

Hi,

Okay, so I get that Tanezumab and Johnson and Johnson's anti nerve growth factors are different. I have not heard anything about J&J's drug yet, but supposedly they have been recruiting. Has anyone heard anything about this or are actually a part of this clinical trial? Also, I see that the Liposomes clinical is active, but not yet recruiting. I wonder when they hope to began recruiting. Also, the ICA talked up the Liris Lidocaine Pretzel awhile back, but mentioned nothing of it in the last ICA magazine as a possible future treatment. I see that it's in clinical trials in Canada, but I wonder why not the U.S.? Just curious if anyone has any more info. I try to keep up with the latest research.
