Every friggin time i get a rescue solution into my bladder, the urethra gets so irritated! Today i had one done and I thought I was gonna die afterward! It was spasming so bad and a horrible, horrible urge to pee.

I had this same problem when they did my hydrodystention. It did die down eventually but holy cow! Even tonight its acting up.

Anyone else have problems like this? Does it usually go away or get better with each treatment?

Hi Nancy,
A couple of possibilities to talk with your doctor about. There are lots of different types of catheters available. I found that latex catheters irritated my urethra badly, even though I didn't have a latex allergy at the time. Changing to latex free catheters was helpful. Also size of catheter makes a big difference. Many IC patients find they do best with a size 8 french catheter or pediatric feeding tube. There is also a catheter type called lo-fric, which many patients like better than the traditional ones. I also found that taking a low dose muscle relaxant at night made self-catheterizing my rescue instillations much easier & greatly reduced my spasms.
I hope you find relief soon,

All i know is that they use a tiny catheter lol...dont' know the size. How long does it normall take for you to find relief after having one done? Im just tired of the urethra area spasming so bad!
