Hello everyone, I just wanted to let everyone know that here in the Reno/Sparks-rural Northern Nevada area that I am starting "The Interstitial Cystitis Association of Northern Nevada" My goal here to help the community get involved and become educated about Interstitial Cystitis. I want to help with awareness so that one day people with IC will not have to deal with peoples cruelty due to misunderstanding, lack of understanding, and ignorance. Because as we all know IC is complicated and awareness is critical. Awareness in the key in saving the lives of Ic'ers everywhere. The depression of dealing with chronic pain is deep, and that is unavoidable...we all have to learn to cope but the problem is that Ic'ers have to deal with the demons that come with chronic pain and having to deal with people who treat IC'ers as though they aren't worth it- and in many cases a lot of us have no where to turn...this heightens the percentage of suicide immensely. Since I walk in the IC shoes I believe that I can make a difference, because if I can save one life I have succeeded. So "The Interstitial Cystitis Association of Northern Nevada" or TICANN will be a non profit organization here to support, share, and spread awareness. Here soon I will be typing up letters for donations and participation to our local retailers so we can hit the ground running for awareness in our community. I have many wonderful and great ideas that I would like to share with fellow IC'ers in this community or if possible in all communities all across this country. I would like for all of us to come together in this much needed action. I am planning a huge event that I would like to present for the first time for us IC'ers. So we can finally have a voice! I am planning our first huge event location hopefully here in the Sparks, Nevada Marina. At the Marina I would like to have fund raising for IC families in need and for broadening awareness. This even will be called "Take a Stroll for Interstitial Cystitis" and I am hoping to have this event next year-June 2011. This event will be for people for all ages- a family event. I am hoping to get retailers, the farming community, and many more to make this event fun and exciting while spreading awareness. I need all of your help to make this come to life. If you live in this area (Reno/Sparks/ Rural Northern Nevada) I would love your input and any help whether it be help planning, organizing, spreading pamphlets/donation collection from retailers/neighbors, friends and the community. Even if you do not live here and would like to help, donations are accepted. Every little bit helps, this is for a cause we all know is important. We are all human and we deserve the recognition, empathy, and understanding from our fellow man. We deserve to be treated like human beings, not to be made to feel guilty about our disease or as if we brought this on ourselves.
