I am happy that you are in remission. I am a cat lover as well and my cat is my son after having recently lost my baby he becomes my only son.

I can only imagine how much you love your cat.

Would love to know the treatments that you've tried. appreciate if you can share this with me.

God bless you.

June

Wow! It must be nice. Why can't all of us go into remission at some point. (even brief remission)Geez! I have been urinating more often over 13 years now. Yep!

Hi Jen,
I am just wondering if this hormonal approach is only for perimenopausal women. Would anything in this direction be suitable for women in their twenties- or is this a restricted age group option?

Thanks for your help.

I've pretty much been in remission for several years now with only a mild flare every now and then. I am an older woman and it did take years before I was diagnosed. I even remember mentioning it to a GYN doctor that I had at the time and yet nothing was done to test for it, so I suffered. I also had three surgeries for prolapse issues which certainly did not help my IC condition. Now, I can eat pretty much anything I like as long as I continue to take my Elmiron (4 capsules per day). I'm due a check up visit in August.

She stated she had been in remission ever since July of 2006. OK. I don't know what day in July, but I will figure she has reached 4 years now. :woohoo::smile tee Why can't I ever be able to do that?:rant:Oh, well!

Blueberry,

I think hormonal issues apply to most of us even when you're in your teens or after you're done menstruating. The biggest blessing for my body so far is Ortho Tri Cyclen LO (not the regular one it's higher in estrogen).

Also reading Screaming to be heard by Dr. Elizabeth Vliet. We're all different on the inside so what works for one person may not work for another.

Melinda,

the biggest issue I had was urgency to urinate, I was blessed & never had pain unless it was menstrual cramps & that was in my late teens/early 20's

I have not posted for a while. I have been in remission for approx. 10 years. This happened gradually after I underwent numerous bladder distensions which made my symptoms worse. I then had 6 weekly DMSO treatments which increased my symptoms initially, but gradually I started having good days, then good weeks, then good months and good years.

By remission I mean that I have had occasional bouts with IC. But not an everyday event. The last 2 years however, I have had appoximately 5 UTI's. After the last one, I went in for recheck to make sure infection was gone. Infection was gone, but there was still blood in my urine. So for the first time in about 10 years I had a cystoscopy on Tuesday. Very different from the last as I had it in the uro's office only using a numbing gel. When he went to put the scope into my urethera it would not fit, so in the office I had a a urethra dilation which I have never had before. They use rods, which got very painful after about the 5th rod. So he stopped and did not dilate as much as he said he would have liked to, but enough to put the cystoscope into me. Since he could not do bladder distension in his office he was not able to check IC, but did say that my bladder was OK. He believes the infections were from my bladder not completely emptying because of the size of my urethra. My questions if anyone can help are:
1)Did the dilation fix the problem, or will it close again?
2) Since this procedure I having IC symptoms again. Will they go away as everything calms down from procedure, or could this start problems up again?
Thanks

Since the original post is gone, I'm wondering what the cure was?! Hormonal therapy, okay, as in BCP's? A doc I went to suggested that to control yeast, and at the time I had never heard of that before.
