Patient Power, a website that provides video blogs on health topics and from various conferences, has done a nice video featuring Dr. Phil Hanno from the AUA conference talking about the name change... but more interesting are the patient questions at the end. Short, sweet and meaningful!!

Thank you for posting this. I think it's so significant that they mentioned the explosion of interest in this "syndrome" in the last decade... should give everyone hope that more effective treatments, even cures, are just around the corner. : )

Jill,
Oh, thank you so much for posting this!!!!!! They really seem to be getting it, don't they? I can almost taste a cure. It always helps to be hopeful.

Of course I am a fan of Dr. Hanno, because he is my dr. I am much better thanks to him!! I had my 6 mos. checkup with him last week & he informed me of the name change. Thanks Jill for all you do for us!! (Never would have expected to see him in a pink tie. LOL)

You know, most incorrectly think that "academics" and "researchers" are cold and distant as clinicians.. but that couldn't be farther than the truth for Dr. Hanno. He gets rave reviews from his patients for his kindness and caring. In the Philadelphia area, he's our first choice for referrals especially for patients who need a kind face and helping hand.

He is kind & caring. He sat there patiently while I pulled out my usual long list of questions, lol. I had recently tried something new (under the suggestion of my boss, a reproductive endocrinologist) & he had no ego problem with that, just gave me his opinion & advice. I always leave from my appt. with him feeling respected & heard.

KarenAnne,

I know that you must know how lucky you are to have not only such a nice doctor for IC, but also to know how knowledgeable he is. Doctors are one thing that alot of us struggle with. Some have never even heard of IC! People go through so many doctors just to find one who is half way decent. I'm glad you have him.

Dr. Hanno sounds like a great guy and great doctor. My only regret about this video is that he refers to IC as "more of a nuisance than a life-threatening condition." I'm afraid this statement could potentially give viewers who are unfamiliar with IC the impression that it is not a seriously distressing disease.

I'd say a "nuisance" is when your 5-year-old keeps tugging at your skirt for an extra cookie, or when your dog piddles on the carpet. But a disease that keeps some of us bed-ridden in pain, prevents us from enjoying intercourse with our loved ones, causes varying levels of depression in almost everyone it touches, is a lot more than a "nuisance." It's a serious, at times debilitating health problem that desperately needs advocacy, research and a cure.

That being said, overall a great video, so kudos! =)
