Ok, if someone want info on this Teva and endo pharm are the two pharmacutical companies that are going to have the generic oxy. The only one that is one the market right now is by Teva AND THEY ARE ONLY SELLING IT IN THE 80 MG, for right now anyways. Not all pharmacies have it now either. Just a FYI for everyone taking it.

I know that if your pharmacy does not carry it, you can have them special order it for you. Their warehouse should be able to get it. I know that my pharmacy has had to do that for me before. They didn't carry Elmiron... ~mel~

I am taking oxycodone and ask my pharmacist if he could get the generic. He said that the warehouse that he orders from doesn't show a generic percocet. Mind you this is a very small town. I really like the guy, he goes out of his way. He has even delivered to my house on several occasions, on his way home, so I guess the difference in copay is ok.

Does anyone have any problems with the oxy generic made by teva pharmacuticals? Or, do you find the generic is as effective as the name brand?

Background: OxyContin is a widely prescribed
pain relief medication manufactured
by Purdue Pharma L.P. (Purdue).
In January 2004, PAL filed suit against Purdue alleging that the company
reaped billions in unlawful profits
from consumers of OxyContin
through fraudulent patents and sham
lawsuits that blocked generic alternatives
from coming to the market. The
lawsuit claims that to win its patents,
Purdue told the federal patent office
that OxyContin was unique because
of its effectiveness at very low
dosages. The suit alleges that the
company knew that there was no evidence
to support this assertion at the
time it filed for the patents. In a non-jury
trial on the underlying patent
suit, the court ruled in favor of generic
manufacturers who had tried to
bring a generic version to market,
finding that Purdue made material
misrepresentations to the Patent
Office and that the OxyContin patent
was invalid and unenforceable.
Update:
A motion is pending to consolidate
all federal OxyContin cases in the
U.S. District Court for the Southern District
of New York, where the underlying
patent litigation was heard. In late March
2004, the federal panel on multidistrict litigation
heard argument on that motion.
We await a decision.
Court: U.S. District Court, District of Connecticut
(Judge Kravitz)

So I guess there isn't a generic version yet for Oxycontin but there may be soon... :)

I thought oxycod. was the generic for percocet-that is what my prescription bottle says anyway, so is there a generic for the generic? Mine says "OXYCOD/APAP 5-325 generic for PERCOCET" I do know that this costs about 50 dollars for 30 and only 5 dollars for my copay. Hmmmmm.....

It is avabile now in certain areas. I know people have taken the new generic. They are only making it in 80 mg for right now.

Oxycontin is the continous release formula of oxycodone. Oxycodone is the active ingredient in Percocet which is a brand name. Oxycodone/Apap is the generic equivalent of Percocet. And for some reason, my pharmacy can't even get generic oxycodone/apap.

The 80mg generic is the oxycontin or continuous or timed release formulation.

Let me put all of this into order... Im getting confused lol...
Percocet is oxycodone but has acetaminophen added in and is not time-released. It comes in 5 mg and 10 mg doses. Its generic names are endocet, roxicet and tylox. Ive also seen it with just oxycondone/apap on the bottle.
And for those who cant take tylenol, Percodan is oxycodone and aspirin and also comes in 5 or 10 mgs doses.
Oxycontin is pure oxycodone only and is time-released. It is in 10, 20, 40, 80 and 160 mgs doses. My pharmacist told me that it would be later in the year before there would be any generic forms of oxycontin (besides the 80 mg) but that it was coming soon and will be much lower.
When I checked to see how much the script was, for 60 oxycontin 20 mg was 190 bucks! I am now up to 30 mgs twice a day and I thank the Gods that I have insurance that covers the cost.
