View Full Version : After a UTI, do you get a "touchy" bladder?

I had a UTI 2 weeks ago and went through a 5 day regime of Macrobid and 5 or 6 Urelle tablets. I felt better just 3 days into the treatment but completed it and all was well.

(Background: I was dx'd with mild IC 4 years ago along with PFD and an atrophic vagininal condition. The only RX I take is Estrace vaginal cream 3 x per week. I'm in my mid 60's and have had no problems since I went on the Estrace treatment. I've had 2 or 3 UTI's over the last few years but, other than that, I've done very well.)

Anyway, I've noticed that, even though I got over my UTI, my bladder is much more sensitive to things that were no problem for me before I had it and was wondering if anyone else has observed the "post UTI" sensitive bladder?
Thanks.

I just came out of an almost 2 year remission. I had 3 flares in 6 days to things I was eating/drinking before no problem. The pain has died down but I have a lingering irritation in my bladder. No infection though. I think when your bladder gets injured via a flare or a uti, it takes us longer to calm our bladders down. I think drinking a lot of water & following the IC diet for awhile might help you. Hope you feel better soon!

I had a UTI last fall. It took about 4 weeks before my bladder completely recovered. It was like I re-injured it and it just had trouble bouncing back!

Yes, the UTI itself and the antibiotics can set off a flare that can go on, even when the infection is over. It's good to follow a very soothing IC diet, drink lots of water & try to stay relaxed. If you were feeling good before the UTI, you will likely feel good again.

It's also a good idea to use a drugstore UTI test kit a few days after you stop the antibiotics to make sure the infection is really gone.

Hope you feel better soon.

Hmmmmm....very interesting. I've been acting like a fool - eating and drinking and exercising like I did before the UTI!

Thanks so much for this advice.
