My Uro has suggested the DMSO instillations for me several months ago and I keep putting it off. I guess I am not convinced I am the right candidate for it to be effective. I have IC symptoms all the time, but am not in constant pain. Although I believe the word 'pain' is debatable! I am in a bad flare about once every 4-8 weeks where it is unbearable (3-4 days at a time). But most days I have frequency and pressure, usually just uncomfortable enough to irritate me throughout the day (worse at night). I do not have the burning pain when I urinate, as I have seen so many IC patients describe.
My question is: I have read that DMSO helps with pain more than frequency. For those that are being helped by these treatments, WHAT KIND OF PAIN DOES THAT REFER TO? I am wondering if these treatments will lesson the severity of my flareups when they occur? Or will they help at all with the day to day spasms and pressure? I realize that none of us will know what helps until we try it, but just wanted to get some feed back.
I was on Elmiron for a year with no success. I have been on Atarax, Detrol, Ditropan XL, etc. I now take 10-20 mg of Elavil for sleeping. And yes, I do watch my diet carefully. Sometimes I know the cause of my flares, and sometimes I simply do not. Flares are getting harder to control.
Sorry this post is so long. Thank you for listening.
