Hello!
I am beyond going crazy at this point with the urgency! Nearly 2 weeks ago I ended up needing an emergency appt w/the urologist to be catheterized because I hadn't urinated in 16 hours, except for a little trickle. At that time they put me on Uroxatral which is actually for men and is supposed to relax you instead of freezing your bladder like some of the others like Vesicare. I have been on that for 11 days and am urinating regularly but have constant urgency still and also frequency. This is different than before when I was not urinating regularly. I had an appt with my urologist today who did an internal exam and suggested a pessary for my prolapse, then she left the room and never came back. So, the OB did the pessary but I didn't get to ask any questions. I have pelvic floor PT tomorrow (have been doing external PT but no difference) but wanted to ask if Uroxatral can actually worsen the symptoms? Since it is meant to relax, I wondered if that could happen. My doctor said I needed to wait a month to see the full effect but I never got that question answered so I thought I would post to see if anyone else has any experience with this? The nurse just called back from my urologist's office and said that it is up to me whether or not I want to try going off the Uroxatral. She said that it's job is to relax everything so that I can urinate. I know that, but all I know is that immediately after the catheterization I began to feel better, not a ton better, but I noticed that I had less urgency and I was urinating normally. Then after a day on the medication I started having urgency and frequency. Maybe it's a coincidence, but I am afraid that I am causing myself to have urgency by being on a medication I don't necessarily need. Could that be possible? I don't know what to do. I am afraid to go off of it and cause retention though too.
