Has anyone used MSM either pill form or installation? I just started reading about it and was wondering if others have tried it.

I've tried it in pill form along with glucosamine/chondroitin and it did help.

Do you still take it? Can I ask what dosage?

I forget the dosage, but it's one capsule daily.

I read that MSM is acid producing. Be careful!

This last month I read "The Miracle of MSM" book and decided to give it a try. I felt I had nothing to lose by trying it. It has been about 4 weeks and I thought it was helping, but then just had a flare (as I typically do). But I read that some people are helped right away and for others it can take several weeks, if at all. I am taking Dr. Jacobs oral solution and have decided to give it a 6 month trial. If it helps I may then switch to a store brand. I have not had any side effects. I take 1 t. 2x/daily.

I do believe it has helped me with my memory and my mind. That to me is worth a lot. I am peri-menopausal and fluctuate something awful at times! :loco: I can use all the help I can get! :help:

I also take MSM twice daily and feel that it has helped a lot. I've read that it only stays in your system for 12 hours, so be sure to take it every 12 hours. I felt a difference shortly after starting it. However, if I waited longer than 12 hours, I could feel the burning coming back. After I took my MSM, it would get better within an hour. I've been taking it for about five months now and on Elmiron for almost six months and am feeling better than I had been. I still get some pressure, but not as bad as it was.

The reason I am asking is because I found Dr. Jacob's book in my doctor's office and was reading some of it while waiting for the doctor. I read the part about it helping IC patients.

When you said Dr. Jacob's oral solution was that in his book? Is it just MSM taken orally or did you mix it with something?

Also, in the book it mentioned installations of MSM. You never hear of that.

The different types of MSM were mentioned in his book. I ordered MSM Oral Solution from Dr. Jacob's website. It doesn't get mixed with anything. It has a bitter taste, but non lasting when I drink with water. I know there are installations, but I thought I would start with this.

Take care,

On the subject of MSM as a mom of a son who was diagnosed with ic at the young age of 21 (he is now 27) I was one determined mom who tried her hardest to help with my son's debilitating pain. The pain just about kept him bedridden as he tried many many medical treatments. After exhausting many treatments that Urologists recommended I search out the dmso2 treatment plan outlined by Dr. Stanley Jacob. I even flew my son from Indiana to Portland to visit with Dr. Jacob in 2001. (He now no longer sees patients) There is so much to say about the benefits of MSM. I believe the book The Miracle of MSM written by Dr. Jacob says it best. My son has had the MSM by oral, iv's, and self cath-home instillations of the msm. His story is about a journey or a process concerning this treatment plan. He found it to be a slow worker to heal his bladder inflammation. Many individuals would have given up, however, he saw small benefits which eventually led to greater benefits. I am glad to report he is doing quite well. He is better than ever before as he regains his life again. He is enrolled in an EMT certification class and his goal is to be a male nurse or a paramedic. This board has given me such wonderful information no words could express my appreciation as many of you would share your thoughts and ideas about dealing with this disease of ic. If you have questions about the msm feel free to email me at bpayton@marykay.com and I will try to answer them the best I can.
Sincerely,
Brenda
