Diverticulitis and Elavil?

I was prescribed Elavil and started with just 1/4 of a tablet a night (tablets are 25 mg). I took it for only 2 nights and became very constipated and had severe intestinal pain. It was diverticulitis. Kind of scary being that sick - I had to go on a liquid diet and wait for things to calm down and take an antibiotic. A month later, my intestines are finally feeling normal again. The thing is though that that tiny little bit of Elavil worked magic on my bladder! It felt normal for the first time in months. So I am wondering if this has happened to anyone else or if maybe this was just a fluke that it happened when I started the Elavil? I am tempted to try it again, but load up on stool softeners and fiber supplements, but honestly am scared of having the same terrible reaction. I could use some advice. Thanks!

I think it would be a very good idea to talk with your doctor about this. I haven't heard of eleval causing anything like this. I'm glad you're feeling better.

I talked to the NP whose response was just to try something else - namely elmiron which I am waiting for insurance approval of. Just wondering if anyone else had this kind of reaction at all?
