VERY interesting, I have had (2) C sections, and then at 31 years old I had a parcel Hystorectomy cervix and uterus thaken out, and then 2 years ago I had another Hystorectomy, taking out the remaning tubes and overies, and then last December here my sigmoid colon removed, So yeah! I have had 5 ab surgery's done to me and I am 45 years old now. I think my Bladder has just had enough here, anyone else, I am curious, a few of the moderators have said that it happened to them this way, tell me what you think??  :hi:

Many IC patient's can go back & remember having some kind of surgery about the same time as IC symptoms started. I know many have had hysterectomys because of pain that was thought to be gyn related only to find out it was IC all along. :( Kathi

I've had multiple myomectomies, my ureters were moved down on my bladder when I was 5, and just 10 weeks ago I had a hysterectomy since I thought the pain was due to fibroids. Well, the pain is MUCH WORSE now, and the pain I was experiencing was from IC, not the fibroids.
Not only that, but I was hoping that the hysterectomy would make sex FINALLY pain-free... quite the opposite. It is extremely painful, regardless of position, and causes a massive flare up that lasts 4-5 days.
I'm getting married in less than 3 weeks, and had planned the date around recovery from the hyst. assuming I'd be able to 'enjoy' my honeymoon.

I was diagnosed after having two exploratory surguries and then last April I had a partical hysterectomy. They removed all but my ovaries. I have been experiencing some major symptoms since that hysterectomy.

Hello,
Well I also had 2 C sections and a full hysterectomy I'm 41! I actually had a huge cist the size of a football which cause my need for the hysterectomy. I was also heading toward endometriosis. Before this I was fairly normal - periods ere not a problem etc. However, I have had my full share of UTI's before and after my last surgery. It seems that IC may have been more of the problem, as many times they did not find a UTI to be present......

I had complete hysterectomy 12 yrs. ago and appendectemy 32 yrs. ago. Have severe pain, varies from severe, doubled over to ok. I see uro next week and I really think this could be scar tissue or something, but what? I refuse to tolerate this pain any longer. It's like when you tell your kids if they get that ohh ohh feeling to get away fast.
any replies? i've about had it. diagnosed 14 months ago, unable to work at all, cant' sit and starting seeing pain dr. 4mos. ago so now i'm unable to drive due to heavy narcotics. i want my life back.
thanks,
julie:kiss:

Never had one, But I was reading on a medical site about the risk factors of a hysterectomy and one of them is injury to the urinary tract.

Before I was diagnosed with IC, I believe I'd had 7 surgeries. I don't think I had bladder symptoms (except for during my periods, which could've been due to the endometriosis on my bladder) until my first laparoscopy. After that surgery I couldn't urinate for 4 or 5 hours. They finally had to cath me. I'm also one of those ICers who had a complete hysterectomy because of pelvic pain that was probably from my bladder. I think we didn't consider my bladder, because I had the endo, ovarian cysts, and repeated cervical infections. That's another thing I wonder about--all those antibiotics I've had for those infections as wells as numerous upper respiratory infections. Because I know about all the IC patients who've had seemingly endless UTIs. Or I wonder if I could've had UTIs that went undiagnosed. I'm 36.

isn't it strange? we all seem to have so many ailments, surgeries, etc. in common. I would give anything to have my life back, cuz this isn't living. i keep praying and doing all the doc's say.

Julie,
Yep, I'm doing the same--praying a lot and listening to the doc. I read recently of studies that showed prayer really helps health problems. It was awesome, because they were double-blind studies where nobody except the researchers knew who was praying for whom. The people being prayed for didn't know it either. These were hospital patients. Results showed that compared to people unprayed for, the prayed for patients had fewer infections and complications, better vital signs, lower blood pressure, etc. :D

I agree 1tuffcookie, Prayer does help health problems, I pray every single day, I meditate on bible sciptures as well, My mother was laying in her death bed with cancer in the hospital last summer, Satan was trying to take her mind, She did not let it happen, My mom kept her bible with her at all times and preached the gospel. A preacher told my mom she was going to be healed and it happend. Miracles happends every day.

Wow! That's so wonderful about your mom! I'm so glad she's okay. I do believe miracles still happen. I read my Bible every day, too.

I am 42,and have had trouble for probably 20 years.Had my uterus removed at about 23.Then another surgery to remove and ovary, then another surgery for the last ovary, then surgery for adhesions due to the surgeries! Not to mention all the laparoscopies [sp?] done to try to find out where the pelvic pain was coming from.My URO nurse definitely believes there is a correlation with surgeries and IC. Have a blessed day!

I developed IC in the last months of my last pregnancy, after undergoing a tubal reversal surgery 7 months prior. The tubal reversal surgery had complications, namely a massive internal hematoma which became infected as well. I'm not sure if this is related or not, but the timing is interesting. Although I was not dx'd for a couple years after my daughters birth, I had severe bladder pain (enough to go for an extra appointment when I was seeing my doc every two weeks anyway), and he thought at the time it was the baby's position on my bladder that was causing the pain. It felt like a bladder infection, and lasted 2 weeks. She was born about 7 weeks after that, and I developed all over body symptoms of extreme fatigue and joint pain. I was going to the bathroom alot more, but thought it was because of having 4 kids so I did my kegels all the time. The first 8 months of my daughters life I was on anti-inflammatories for joint pain and went through a series of tests to see if I had some kind of auto immune issue, and it was thought I had mild rheumatoid arthritis, however that all cleared up by the time she was 8 months old. Then I was just peeing alot, and I can remember being stressed about not being within half an hour of a bathroom at any one time. My ex husband is a boater and we would go boating and I would sweat it because of the no bathroom situation. And I was coaching basketball and always had to pee at the half time which was a pain because its only 10 minutes and thats when you coach the kids in the dressing room for the next half. Anyway, I continued having bladder infections that weren't bladder infections (8 in total) until one day I retained and then that started reoccuring, and my pain levels were out of this world with foods like vinegar, and then I eventually got to a uro and got diagnosed.
Anyway, thats my story. I'm not sure if the surgery triggered the IC, or what, but that's what happened.
Cath
PS sorry for being so long winded.

Hi..I had 3 csections, I had a partial hysterectomy 2002, left my ovaries, 8 mos later 2003 I had my ovaries removed. Only to still have the same pain in which I had this all done ...because it was IC all along!
I think its sad what we had gone through!

Let's see. . . probably 8 laparoscopies, 3 laparotomies, and 3 or 4 surgeries where I had stitches in the pelvic region. Last surgery was last week-

I had 3 laprocospies, a hysterectomy Those were 12-14 yrss ago, appendectomy was 35 yrs. ago. This is really amazing.
I saw my uro today, insisting that i must have more endo or scar tissue. he insisted it's ic and the pain i'm describing is the same as all along. if i think back, he's right. i guess, no, i know i just want it to be something curable. he told me out of 200 ic patients, i'm 1 of 5 that are doing poorly and continuing to go down hill. wow! that's a biggie. i will continue to pray, lots.
thank goodness for this board and all of you. thanks so much for your kind words and always being there.
julie:thumbsup:
