Mucus Anyone?

Hi everyone! I had something strange happen to me yesterday & was wondering if anyone else has had this before. I was sitting on the toilet going pee & after I finished, I could feel that there was something else up there. I pushed (like giving birth) & out came a huge wad of mucus. It was about 2 inches long & kept it's shape while in the toilet. What the heck was this?

Pretty common to pass white thingys. I've been told it's the bladder sloughing off all the dead parts. Your's was quite a bit bigger then usual & if you have any questions that it might be something else please call your doc. Isn't IC wonderful (she says scarastically):hi: Kathi

I have had the same yucky stuff a couple of times. Both times I had a infection. I have heard it could be bladder shedding as well. My doctor suggested I bring it in to have a look at but it has not happend again. I would let your doctor know .

Oh, how fun... I've had weird stuff in my urine too. Sometimes the mucusy stuff is just mucus, or your bladder shedding, like the others said. Sometimes I get what looks like an "oil slick" on my urine too -- I suspect that is part of the GAG layer being sloughed off as well.

But sometimes, it can be a "weird" infection with an unusual organism. I think ICchell passed a big mucusy chunk and she brought it to the dr's office (she fished it out of the toilet with a jar... gross, I know, but it is sometimes the best way to find out) and he cultured it and told her she had a rare lactobacillus infection.

Also, you can also get a Candida (yeast) infection in your bladder, believe it or not... that causes white stuff to come out, but your pain would likely increase. This happened to me once and I was peeing lots of gross white chunks. It only happens if you've been on broad-spectrum antibiotics for a while (I was) or are on steroids (I was on those too) or are otherwise immunosuppressed (I was, because it was a time of very high stress). I had three risk factors for it and I started getting a vaginal yeast infection, then stupidly had sex anyway before I realized what was happening, and that must have forced the yeast up my urethra too, and it decided it liked my bladder just as well ... I took Diflucan every day for a week and it went away, never to return.

Best thing to do is talk to your doc about it.

Thanks, everyone. I was thinking it was probably after-effects of the hydro or installations, but the shedding of the bladder lining makes sense. It's still scary, though. My friend said, 'Well, at least you got whatever it was out of there.' I thought, yeah, as long as it's not something I need!

I see those oil slicks also. IC is wierd!

If it happens again, I'm going fishing. :toilet:

Sometimes I have stuff in my urine that looks like shredded tissue or thin paper. I never thought about it possibly being the lining of my bladder shedding. I'll bet that's exactly what it is!

I have that happen on occasion.
Also, the oil slick thing!

I have the tissue like shreds of mucous, do not have the oil slick, though, wow we sound like leaky boats:toosh: makes sense the lining of bladder, never thought about that, but it has to go somewhere I suppose, hugs Iris.:hmm: :flower:

I have had the exact same thing once in a while. Usually while my IC is flaring. I don't have infection at the time. (urine cultured). I figured myself that it is just a by product of inflammation. Usually where there is bad inflammation you get liquid or mucus. (I think anyway).
