Ok let's get the basics out of the way. I'm well hydrated and don't have a uti. The pollen situation in my area is extremely bad and I've been in a non stop flare for over a week. I'm eating only ic safe foods and taking hydroxyzine and nasalcrom and hot baths but the flare is relentless and dehabilitating. I could use some advice. Thanks.

Love, Hannah.

We're just getting into the pollen season in Oregon and I double dread it! If I pretty well stay indoors if there's a breeze, I do pretty well. I also keep windows closed and run the air conditioner. I haven't taken nasalcrom, but I wonder if it might be a problem?

Fortunately nasalcrom is endorsed by urologists with ic patients. It has no known contraindications and is even used as an instill in some cases. I stay in my room with the ac, avoid going out in the pollen and wash it off whenever I come back inside. Sadly, my bladder can't handle the pollen at all.

Allergies always make me worse too. We had crazy wind today but I had to get outside with my daughter for awhile or she'd go crazy. Can you talk to your dr. about increasing your dose of hydroxyzine? Also I always do a nasal wash after I've been outside and shower-wash your hair before going to bed. If you have indoor allergies than try to reduce those as much as possible (dustmites, mold) to bring the overall load down. I take Singulair and Zyrtec daily and Benadryl when things get really bad. I also use Astelin nose spray.

We have been well into pollen season for a while here and those of us in this area have been suffering. Calling the Dr's office isn't easy right now because of the overload of calls. My Dr told me to use Zyrtec in addition to my hydroxyz but it has caused me to be completely wiped out all week. It has helped my bladder though. Today I going to try and go without the Zyrtec and see if I am more awake. Other than what has already been mentioned I know that you should wash your hair before going to bed (to remove pollen) change clothes after being outside for a period of time, vacuum often to keep levels low indoors. Run your AC and don't open windows. I can't think of anything else if I do I will post them. Oh one more, you can use saline spray for your nose to clear out pollen and if you can stand it, use a neti pot also.

My indoor allergies are minor and not a problem, the usual culprits, mold, dust mites, etc. We go without curtains and rugs, don't permit mold, etc. hydrox has been increased, taking zyrtec too and nasalcrom and also sinus rinses, (like a neti pot) and I'm still flaring hugely every day. I have to take a urelle a day and wear heating pads just to scrape by. It's rough. I keep telling myself it'll stop eventually but right now i'm very low.
