hi everyone,

im not sure if i have IC but there is something wrong with my bladder thats for sure!!!!

For as long as i can remember i have always had urine frequency which was particularly bad in my teens and since i got older it has got worse, im now 28.

constantly getting the feeling i have a UTI, pain & frequency but almost always - sample so i was never given anything. I noticed that the problem got worse especially after sex, i would have bladder pain, blood in my urine and the feeling i was leaking urine. I found a lovely female GP who prescribed me an antibiotic to take after sex, which didnt work but at least she tried.

finally last year both my GP and i decided enough was enough and she sent me for a cystoscopy and urethral dilation which i had done in Feb. This has made my problem 100% worse although they said my bladder seemed ok. I was peeing every 30 mins, it doesn't hurt to pee but the pain afterwards has me doubled up andin tears with a burning feeling, i have a constant pain and feeling that someone is pressing on my bladder. As for the sex its a no go, we tried once since feb and i hurt so much i was crying.

i was given detrusitol 4mg for the frequency which is helping a little, can go 2 hours now was started on amitriptyline 20mg at night for the pain as well as co-codomol 2 weeks ago. I cut out caffine, fruit juices and alcohol a month ago also.

i have just seen a different GP today (to get a sick line as im too sore to work and worried i cant get away for the loo if i need) who thinks i have always had an inflammed bladder but the cystoscopy has irritated it further.

Anyway if the cystoscopy showed my bladder was ok can i still have IC. im due to the the urologist in 2 weeks time, should i just ask him if IC is a possibility or any suggestions on where to go next??

Thanks so much for taking the time to read my novel :)XX

Meds - Detrusitol 4mg (1 month)
Amitriptyline 20mg (2 weeks)
Co - codomol (as needed for pain)

An office cystoscopy will not usually diagnose interstitial cystitis. Definitely ask the uro if IC is a possibility. In the meantime, you could begin an IC diet to see if that helps. It can also help if you do a voiding diary during the two weeks before your appointment --- and take it with you to the doctor's office.

:welcome: to the IC Network.

My first Uro told me my bladder was fine and sent me home . I asked for a second opinion and had a cystoscopy/hydrodistention in the OR and she found IC. In my opinion you should go to another Dr and get a second opinion. Good luck!!!

I wanna start by giving you another welcome. Yep! You have found a good place, the message boards, where we can understand. Many people don't understand. It is apparent that something is going on with you. Of course, IC is a possiblity. (which you seem to figure) None of us enjoy having IC, or any chronic illness, but it is still good to be properly diagnosed. Yep! It is good that you will be seeing a urologist. OK. Many IC'ers do have sex complications as well. (or what you had stated on the subject) Yep!

I saw many uro who said i had IC and I didn't have IC, they went back and forth over my diagnoses for years, the problem was I didn't fit into a nice tight diagnoses of IC because i have severe urninary retention too, my current uro said I don't know why your previous uros could not see that I had more than one problem, but that my bladder definatly showes i have IC no matter what else is going on.

Sometimes people have to get a few opinions to feel comfortable with the diganoses.

Sounds like you need to see a uro and maybe have a cycto under anatstectic, not all uro think you need this so don't be surprised if they don't offer it.
