I met with the perinatologist. Even with my bizarre medical history, I am able to safely get pregnant. I will have to be on blood thinners...not sure if it will be baby aspirin or heparin. They don't see any complications arising other than perhaps a c-section or IC related issues. There are two urogynecologists on staff in my perinatologists group...one does tons of interstims, so I'm going to go see him for a check up. I was told to see an endocronologist about the Lupron for the endometriosis, which I am going to do. I am not looking to get pregnant for a few years yet, so I'm trying to work out birth control/endometriosis control without any hormones...which is hard. The perinatologist suggested a latex free diaphragm (latex allergy) to me, but I'm not sure that I would be ok with spermicides and IC. If any of you have had good success with a particular brand, let me know. The periods are just getting worse. I am happy about the pregnancy thing, or I'd have my hysterectomy scheduled by now.

Mimi,

Congratulations! That's wonderful news that you can safely get pregnant! Your mention of a diaphragm reminded me of something I just read. Diaphragms are often used with spermicides, such as nonoxynol-9. The article I read, "Xenoestrogens Interfere with your Normal Hormones and Create Endometriosis," says nonoxynol-9 has a compound which breaks down into something called nonylphenol. The article says an animal experiment showed nonylphenol acts like an estrogen. You probably already know that estrogen makes endo grow. I don't know if the study has been confirmed by other researchers, but I think it's better safe than sorry! This article discusses many other substances that act like estrogen, including things in many shampoos and sunscreens. It's too many to list here, but if you want to scope it out, here's the website: www.endo101.com/xeno.htm.

Good luck!
Andrea
