Trying to find help in Windsor, ON

I have seen two urologists in Windsor and they have been awful.
I have had two cysto's done and the second one revealed bladder inflammation. I was told that bladder instills would normally be done, but in my case he said no since I didn't have insurance. He said come back when I have insurance. I won't have insurance as I am a teacher and it is not provided with my employer.

Overall, the knowledge about treating IC seems abysmal in Ontario. I can't find any urologists in my area.

I guess I don't really have a question, it is more of a rant.

If there are any other members near my area, I could really use a friend to chat with about this.

This dosen't make sense to me you are in Canada why do you not have insurance?

Health care is provided to all Canadians, but not everything is covered. Medication is paid for out of pocket as well.

Instills are not covered by the basic health care, so I would have to pay for them out of pocket. And any other medication I need I would also have to pay for out of pocket.

You didn't mean you don't have insurance, you do in fact have medical insurance, but you do not have the extended health portion of it, to cover things that regular medical do not cover. In Canada many people do not have the extended health portion of bennifits.

If you ask the uro to write to Ont. heath and ask if they will pay for yu to have the instills and why they will help you, you will probalby get an okay for this, it ussally dosn't take too long to get permission.

Yes is also called "discretionary benefits" your Dr needs to write a letter to them explaining why an instillation (is it Uracyst?) would change your quality of life but they might not cover you because you are not on ODSP (Ontario disability) . I don't know what kind of insurance you have but I had the same problem with mine the first time I called asking if I was covered they told me no , my husband called his and was told Uracyst is considered a device not a medication . I called my insurance and asked again and I was covered, sometimes they can find it because is under a device.

Melinda - I know this post is very old, and I don't know if you still check these boards, but figured it was worth a shot! I live in Tecumseh, ON (but grew up in Windsor). I had an excellent urologist diagnose me - after doing a cysto and hydrodistension, this was all covered by OHIP. I am wondering if you haven't received the treatment you need yet? Perhaps the laws have changed? I am on Elmiron, and it seems to be okay so far....I will try to send a friend request if I can find your profile and you are still active on this forum.
