I don't know if I am off on this one but when I take antacid I don't feel the burning in my lower back as much.

Do you mean like a tums? Or something like pepcid or the others? (can't think of any of the brands at the moment) I know that tums help very much like prelief as they are made from calcium and some that can't use baking soda and water will use tums. On the others, I have read articles that mention those as possibly being helpful for IC. I would be interested to know which you are taking that helps you. I am always willing to give something new a try, especially something OTC. Am I right that some antacids can react with some meds? I seem to recall that, wow, I really miss my memory. All the medicine and pain combined have really taken a toll on my brain I am afraid....hope that is what happened, wouldn't like to think I had just lost it for no reason...LOL

Let us know what is helping you, please share.

Yes, very right antacids can interfere with other medicines. You always want to take them alone and certain ones on a empty stomach. I take mind at 6am. Excessive use of these drugs can cause problems like rebound acid, so temporary use is all I do. I take zantac or tums sometimes at night before bed, but mainly what I am talking about are the stronger ones like the h2 inhibitors such as prilosec, tagamet, prevacid. I also love a herb called uva ursi which helps with the inflammation and pain. You have to be very careful taking a lot of calcium. Illness is tricky what works for me may not for others. My body is weird it responds to things differently.

Here are a few things to keep in mind that interfere with medicines such as; fiber, grape fruit, antacids.

Always, check with your doctor when taking medicines is my advice. My doctor always knows what I am up to. He doesn't have to approve of it, but he does know.

I have read that tagamet and zantac and the like can help with IC. I guess you are a lucky one that they do help. I take a lot of meds and recall that one of them did specify not to use antacids while taking the medication. Wish I could remember which one, seems to me it was cymbalta.

Anyway, glad to hear they are helping you. I think they work the same way they help your stomache by reducing the acid levels. Only with us it helps in the bladder, I assume with the urine or just to calm perhaps. Whatever the reason, like I said, glad you found something the helps.

I do know about the grapefruit, although that doesn't apply to me now! What is the rule about fiber, not sure I knew that one. I also did know not to take an antacid at the same time as other meds, but I think I take one that said not at all, so I avoid them altogether. Curious about the fiber though.

Anti depression medicines are very tricky you have to be very careful. If it said that you best follow through. The fiber can slow absorption or even block it in certain medicines. It is always suggested to take the fiber separately and with a good time span within other medicines.
