In October 2009 I took ill with a burning back pain. It felt like I was frying french fries in my lower back. I had been having all these weird symptoms r/t my Fibro and thought possible here is something new. It hurt so bad at night when laying on stomach felt like razors cutting me inside. It seem to effect my entire pelvis and my bowels as well. This nagging burning pain.

I went to the ER they did a CT found a cyst on left ovary 2cm. I got them all the time, so I thought well I had one burst then on my rt. ovary and that's it. They did find white blood cells in my urine and put me antibiotics for 3 days. I knew 3 days was useless for infection. They said, because I was only 2 on a scale of 5 for infection is the reason? Okay, but basically, they didn't have a clue and they knew I knew they didn't.

This continued on into the new year. Now worse I thought possible back troubles perhaps a pinched nerve from disk issue? But nothing to prove that.

Okay, so I did some playing around myself with home remedies well I said I will drink cranberry juice maybe it a lingering infection of my bladder. oh my gosh, help me. The pain was worse. Isn't cranberry suppose to help. Well, then I added extra vit C 3000mg daily again,HELP! Pain worse and burning very bad. No burning on urinating or any fever, oh gosh what if I have something serious like you know the biggie. No blood noted, whew! But, still what is this. Then I thought how many times do I use the BR at night 10 or more no joke and this is not normal. I remember for years I've been like this. I just thought it was all the ice tea I drank. Well, not. So I researched IC and bingo I started trying stuff suggested and my symptoms improved.

It was nuts I had pain all through my pelvis and bowel trouble, and my hips even hurt, my lower back was the root of my pain. My fibro pain causes burning pain in my muscles of my legs and arms, so perhaps now my back, but nothing I did helped that I usually do when I get flares of fibro, so it cannot be the same, so it seems.

Then I remembered I got kidney and bladder infection all the time as a kid and young woman 21-29yo hospitalized many times. I have a kidney that sits low and is twisted and contains 2 collecting systems. I use to get IVP's and I did have even cystoscope once.

What is your thoughts can IC effect the pelvis, cause lower back pain and hip pain or mimic other problems like I've described. How come when I tried some items suggested to help with IC my symptoms improved. Nothing work prior to that.

Hello and welcome. Yes I have fibro too (alot of us here do) and what you are describing is dead on to the pain I get in my back. My fibro pain disappeared when I got pregnant and hasn't been back actually so now the only pain I now deal with is the IC which effects my stomach, lower back, buttocks and bladder. And like you said the things that help me out of fibro flares do not work for my IC pain. It sounds like you likely do have IC based on what you describe ..especially your positive response to the diet and inability to tolerate vitamins and cranberry juice. I would suggest you make an appointment with a urologist. The sooner you get diagnosed and get treatment the better chances you have of getting the pain under control. Let us know if you have any other questions!

It does sound like interstitial cystitis is a possibility. Have you seen a urologist? If not, I think it would be a good idea.

You can learn more about IC in our Patient Handbook (The link is in my signature below).
