I was just diagnosed last Monday after being told the Friday before that my urine sample only had blood in it, no infection.
They took a catheter sample on Monday as part of my potassium test.

The potassium test was positive for IC. She told me to come back in a month to see if the alternative treatment and IC diet are working for me.

Today I get a phone call that my urine culture IS positive for a UTI, and I am to take antibiotics for 2 weeks (!). The nurse says that the doctor said "I still think you have IC, though".

I am so upset right now. I feel that the PST was "positive" because I did have a UTI, not because of the IC and that I'm back to square 1.

I asked the nurse to have the doctor call me before we do any kind of treatment. I feel that the years of antibiotic use have aggravated my bladder lining and had a part in causing IC. She is not in the office, I'm told, and she won't call me until tomorrow.

To make matters worse, she wants to prescribe Macrobid, the same AB that I have been taking for the last 9 months everytime I thought I had a UTI. I feel like she didn't even listen to me when I told her that.

Any advice would be appreciated.

It's very possible that you have IC, as well as an infection. If they did a culture, which it sounds like they did, the antibiotic ordered should get rid of the infection. I don't like taking antibiotics, but if an infection is confirmed by a culture, there's no question --- I will take them.

Sending healing thoughts,
