I was diagnosed with IC five years ago. I have recently started having coccyx (tailbone) pain. I have also had rectal pressure (feels like you need to have a BM) for one year now. The coccyx pain started about two weeks ago. The tailbone pain seems to be worse when I am sitting rather than standing - it makes my lower back hurt and my legs seem to hurt. The tailbone pain seems to make the rectal pressure worse which also seems to make the IC symptoms worse. Talk about one thing leading to another.
Has anyone experienced tailbone pain or rectal pressure with their IC symptoms. Thank you for your help!

Any time we have a "new" pain that hangs on for as long as two weeks, we really need to have it checked. I've never had that type of pain with IC, but it's probably possible.

I have had some rectal pain and moderate tail bone discomfort. After ruling out anything but muscle tension, the dr prescribed physical therapy, which has helped.

Ditto on the PT. I have the same thing, pressure and a constant dull ache. Pt has really help. Do your research for a PT that works with pelvic floor and IC.Good luck

I was diagnosed with pelvic floor disorder along with the IC. I get these symptoms & they are relieved by physical therapy. My therapist specializes in pelvic floor problems.
I am not saying that you have this. I agree with Donna, if this is something new for you, you need to be checked out by your doc.

Hello,
I have the same symtoms. My dr told me that it's part of the IC.

I have been seeing a Physical Therapist that specializes in pelvic floor disorders for a couple of years now. It has been a couple of months since I have seen her and I am scheduled to see her on Friday. For those of you with tailbone pain or rectal pressure, what methods of treatment has your PT used on you? I feel like my tailbone pain is getting worse - it is radiating into my hips and down into my legs. I did see an orthopedist on Monday and he diagnosed me with "coccyx pain" and wanted to give me a shot of cortisone. I did not get that. I may have to go back and get a shot as the pain is getting worse. I am scheduled for a second job interview tomorrow, which requires sitting for 8 hours. I don't know if I can do that. Please pray for me.

While I don't have any advice, I can definitely pray for you. A pray is going up right now! I have had a dull pain in the same area and my Aunt who has IC has been describing a very similar pain to me that she is experiencing. Neither of us have pursued anything as far as getting relief aside from a heating pad and hot baths.
Praying... :)
