Has anyone used a B & O suppository before a DSMO treatment? I was just wondering about it since my uro wants me to use it. I did not get a chance to really ask my uro about it and I was just wondering if anyone else had used one. Does it help?

B (belladonna) & O (opium) is an effective pain med. I think it's one of the ones used for severe pain. Some use pain meds before instillations & say it helps. Some have no problem with instills. If this is your first, maybe it would be better just to see how it goes first. Hugs, Kathi:hi:

B&O works very well for spasms, bladder and urethral, but it kind of kicks your butt. I usually save them for night time when I am still but my insides are not. I was wondering about asking for a lower dose than I could use during the day. They are labeled:B&O 16-A Supprettes 12's, if that makes any since. Does anyone know what that means or understands the dosages of this medicine? Thanks,
Jean

Hi there,
B & O Rock, they work SOOO well for spasms and bladder pain. Jeanmary, the 16A are the stronger ones, they have 60 mg of crushed opium in them. The 12 is usually just the number in the box, they come in boxes of 12. 15A are the weaker ones, they have 30 mg of crushed opium in them.
You never know what will happen to you. They don't make me loopy, but will make me kinda sleepy about an hour after I use one. I think it is a great idea to use one before DMSO. I use mine all the time before sex and it has helped to make sex MUCH less painful for me, which my husband loves!!
I would give one a try. When I first used one, I was so upset I didnt know about them before now!

Sarah,
Have you ever broken one in half and just used that? I did the other night and it worked for me. Don't know if you are supposed to but I did. Thank you for the info and I agree, they really do rock!

I haven't ever broken them in half, I find that I need the whole one. Plus, I did try to break one in half one time and it made a HUGE mess, so I thought I wouldn't try that again. I am almost positive that it is okay to break them in half.
Hope your DMSO works well.

I have hydro-cysto- DMSO instills every 6months. They ALWAYS give me the b-o suppository while I am still asleep on the OR table. Something my uro and I invented. I must have it before I wake up. It makes a huge difference . My CRNA has it with his drugs when he takes me to the OR room. I hear my uro ask is the b-o here . I have had these treatments for 19 years and once we got the hang of this it has made such a difference in my upon emerging in pacu.

I swear by them. Only once did I have a couple at home in the refrigerator.

I forgot exactly the equivalency with the 15mg b-0 and the 30 mg b-0 but they are equivalent to such much morphine . I was taught like 10-12 of Morphone. Yes I would get groggy after getting them and I see pt's do the same in the recovery room.

This may be a dumb question, but do you need a prescription for the suppositories? I have been having spasms real bad and all they are doing is pt right now (urinary retention) and flomax and nothing is working. I take valuim (spell?) at night, but that really doesnt' do anything either.

I barely got my doctor to try the flomax....Help??

Hello There!

Yes you do need a RX to get the suppositories. I keep them for the really horrible spasms and pain because they kind of knock me down. What I am really interested in is valium suppositories and am wait to hear from my Doc. I had a dialation about a year ago when I had a diagnostic hydro and was really hesitant to do it. It is supposed to be "old School" medicine. It caused great pain and irritation for quite a few weeks and I would not allow the procedure again. For some it may be the answer. Do you take Utram or Tramadol (generic) for pain? Sometimes it does the trick for me.
I hope you are feelilng better soon.

I really don't have any pain anymore. I did before and the doctor said it was because I was pushing so hard to void. I am just trying to do everything and anything I can to be able to void on my own right now. I took a double dose of the flomax yesterday (.8mg) and it kind of worked.

I did ask about the dialation and yea..they basically said they really don't do that anymore.

Who knows anymore.....
