I'm a huge Norman Vincent Peale fan myself. The
"Power of Positive Thinking" absolutely changed my life for the better. I found it after my IC began and it just gave me such useful guidance at a time when I was desperate for hope. The more resources that we can find that are encouraging, the better!

YES! I have had a subscription for years and years. I LOVE that mag - VERY inspiring and hope filled stories. :)

I know this is an old post, but I thought I would share a nice little story with y'all.
Many years ago I wrote an essay on "How to Buy a Bear." It told you all about what to look for when you were at the store looking for a bear. What size to get, how fluffy he should be, what color and why, etc.
So I finish this little essay and, still living at home at the time (I must have been in my teens when I wrote it), I took it downstairs and I showed it to my mother. She read it and handed it back to me. I asked her what she thought and she said, "It will never be published."
Now you have to understand I *had* been published by that time. Nothing really fancy up to that point, just a few articles and a few pieces for poetry magazines.
See, my original intention was to submit the piece to Guideposts. That's why I wrote it.
But then when Mother told me it would never be published, I stupidly believed her and never submitted it.
Years later, Soon Will Come the Light was published. It quickly won an award. It was not the first thing I had ever written to win an award, but *was* the first thing I ever wrote that took a *national* award.
That was kind of kewl. :)
So when the publisher came to me for a second edition, I dug around in my archives and found the bear essay.
I sent it to him (along with some other things and some corrections and changes to the book) and told him to plug it into the book towards the back with a few other essays I had written that were already in the book.
Much to my surprise, he added it and it is now one of the most popular parts of the book and one part that I get a lot of positive comments on.
My motivation in submitting the essay to the publisher was to prove my mother wrong, and that yes, it *could* be published.
When the second edition came out, I showed it to her and I told her she was wrong and that the essay had always been good enough to be published.
At which point she denied ever telling me it couldn't be.
*Sigh*
Now, over 20 years later, I am still proud of that little piece of writing. I would post it here for all of you to read, but I can't do that because it is still under contract with Future Horizons. :(
Sorry about that. But hey, at least you got a nice little happy story to while away your time online...
I love Guideposts magazine! I look forward to it each month:)
I used to save it to take it to DMSO treatments because the articles are short, positive & the magazine fits easily into my purse.

I haven't thought about Guidepost in years. My mom always had a subscription.
