Hi everyone. I really need your help. My pain clinic will not give me anything other that Neurontin for my pain. I have been taking it for 4 days now and am now up to 4 pills a day, but so far don't really notice a difference in my pain. Can someone tell me if this takes a while to work? I'm really getting discouraged and I'm in a lot of pain.

I don't think it should take very long to work....normally even meds that can make a difference right away you should give a week before you say good bye since there is a lot of body getting used to med issues that could interfere. That said I know with Neurontin 4 pills a day still could be a low dose....and it is possible that it is just too low a dose for you to tell. When I took Neurontin for pain I had experience with the med for epilepsy so was able to take higher doses fast and it took 2700 mg a day for me to really benneifit and I believe we went higher than that before I switched....now after I knew it helped I could take less as needed and still feel the bennefit but I was much milder situation than. When the pain is very severe it is much harder to notice a difference...at least it is for me.
I don't know if that helps you or not but that is what my experience states.

Wow I can't believe you made it up to four pills in just four days. I was on Neurontin for a while but it made me so dizzy I switched to Elavil. From what I remember, it didn't take long to work. Even at the smallest dose I noticed a small change within a couple of days. But it could take a bit longer depending on the person, but I would think within 5 days you would notice it. Have you tried Elavil? I found that it worked better for me and the side effects were more tolerable. It no longer makes me drowsy, either.
