Hi Everyone,

The good news is that we are getting more and more people to vote each year. Unfortunately, we still have a very lazy population when it comes to monitoring what the elected do once they are in office. I know I am as guilty as the next person.

Whether you like the president or not...whether you like politicians in general or not....I hope you choose to watch the State of Union address and the Republican rebuttal tonight. If you have children, watch it with them and discuss what they are saying.

If our country is going to turn around we all need to get better educated about how these folks are running it. This is just one way we can learn more about that process.

Please, do not turn this into a debate about various political agendas, or I will close the thread. I just wanted to encourage you all to watch. :-)

Hubby and I watched the President's speech but both of us kept nodding off during it. (Yesterday was a very busy and hard day for both of us.) As soon as he finished speaking, off went the TV and we went to bed. I totally forgot about the rebuttal. Yikes!!! I really wanted to hear that one also. :bonk:

I never watched any of the presidents State of the Union. It doesn't matter what party they are. I just never have understood what they were trying to say.

As you said, we all need to stay informed. With the news these days it's hard.

Bottom line, whatever your political beliefs are, staying informed = "We the People" as opposed to "We the Sheeple" -- Knowledge is power and being an informed voter .....doesn't come from watching politicians "elect me" ads. It comes from knowing the issues and where they stand.

Now after all of that, I have to confess I had to watch re-runs-- work again.

We managed to watch the whole thing, but my suggestion is that they put up a huge sign stating "Please wait until the end before applauding." It seemed like there was more time spent watching applause than listing to the speech.

I agree, Donna. And honestly, it wouldn't hurt to have bullet points or some sort of a scroll at the bottom recapping. We are so much more a visual society these days, and the younger generation really expects that.

I also would like to hear more than a rah rah speech, but maybe that is just what the SOU is.

I am trying more and more to pay attention....and trying to get my kids to as well.
