Ladies I need your advice. My heparin instills have gone up to 474.00 a month that is for one medication? I called my insurance company today and they stated to me that if I really needed the medication?????????? I wanted to say No I just cath for fun. The insurance ladies told me if my dr writes a letter to them saying that there is no medication out there for me but this that they would take it into concideration and mabey lower it? Do drs do this? I see dr lowell parsons in san diego? I have to ask him cuz its gotten to the point that I either pay my utillitys for my house or pay the meds?

Hi Curlycue,

I would definitely call Dr. Parsons office. I'm sure this would not be the first time they've dealt with this. I would think that they would definitely do something to help you out-Dr. Parsons definitely believes very strongly that what he recommends and prescribes for his patients are the most effective treatments for IC....

Hi Ruth,
I think Jill's suggestion is a good one:) Don't you just want to reach through the phone sometimes to shake the insurance company reps? Once a rep told me that I needed a letter of medical necessity for catheters. I asked if the prescription itself wasn't a statement of medical necessity and his response was that since people sometimes say they need things like ski equipment for medical reasons, I needed a specific letter. All I could manage to say after I finished sputtering was, "Okayyyyyy, because using catheters is almost, but not quite, as much fun as skiing. He did have the grace to be embarrassed, but only a little.
Definitely put in a call to the doctor, ok?
Wishing you a good resolution to this,
