Wow,
I am sorry you've posted twice and have not had a response yet. I think if they use enough lidocaine gel you will be fine. Some suggestions here have been to also take Pyridium before hand. If you use Ativan you may want to do that on the first one just to relax. It is really not bad at all - not compared to the horrible pain that never ends. I'm sure you will do well. You are getting one of THE BEST instils. For some reason the U.S. has lagged behind other countries getting it to us:cussing:.

nottoco,
How long did it take before you started seeing a difference when doing the Elmiron instil?

Can anyone give me some info on instills. How long do the instills last and how often does one need to have them done? I have burning down low in the bladder, feels like in the urethra. I've been on elmiron since mar. 09 and have slowly gained relief over the months til my symptoms disappeared all together. Also started glucosamine/chondroitin in sep. 09. Now in Dec. and Jan. the burning has slowly returned. I don't know what to do now. I hope some day there are more answers to the cause and cure to this awful syndrome. I wish everyone pain free days in the future!

I have been having instills for over 2 years now. My doctor uses lydocain to insert the catheter & they also put me under IV sedation (Verset & Morphine). It takes a few hours of percocet to recover, but the next day I feel great! I have not tried one with Elmiron - perhaps I will mention that to my doctor. Instills are the ONLY thing that helps me - other than pain meds. I was diagnosed with IC back in 2005. I was on elmiron for a year, it didn't work. Tried Physical Therapy, that didn't work either. Good luck to you!!!

What kind of instil are you using? Do you still follow the diet too?

I have had 2 series of instills. When first diagnosed I had 6 or 7 instills and by the time I was finished with them 80% of my symptoms were gone.I was on oral Elmiron too. Was just trying to get a handle on the diet when I started having bad gastro symptoms which I blamed on Elmiron and came off it. I had many test before discovering that Splenda was my problem. I went back to my Dr.and had another 6 instills and by the third one I was pain free. I also was put on Imipramine(antidepressant) and between the 2 of those meds I have been doing well. I have been able to reintroduce some foods but there are some I cannot tolerate. Jo
