Medication & pregnancy

I am new to this site and have had IC for 2 1/2 years. I am currently on Endep 25mg (amytriptaline). We are TTC (trying to conceive) baby number 2. I didnt' have IC with my first pregnancy and am unsure if anyone knows anything about taking your medication while pregnant. My DR said its ok for me to take Endep25mg whilst pregnant. Can anyone tell me your thoughts on this. I am scared of not having my medication while pregnant. Just knowing that I can take it gives me control over dealing with my pain. I only take my meds at night. I hope someone can help me. What I would also like to know is does anyone know of birth defects associated with taking medication while pregnant. Thanks .

I understand what you are feeling, I am now 36 weeks pregnant and wondered the same thing as you about that particular drug and its use during pregnancy.

My doctor, as well, suggested that I could stay on it and in Ontario, Canada we have a health line called Motherisk that you can call and it will give you specific information and studies about the effects of drugs on the fetus. However, the studies are with animals.

In the end I decided to go off all my meds, but I was VERY scared to do so. Fortunately, I have had a very comfortable pregnancy, used Prelief to enjoy a more varied diet and am awaiting baby # 3 (my first with IC).

Speak to your Doctor again for reassurance and see if there are any studies out there to give you more information.

As far as meds and pregnancy, I went off all mine while I was pregnant with IC. Unbelievably I did fine. I think it's normal to be scared or worried about what will happen. I think if we did, no one would have children!;)
It's really up to you and your doctor to decide. I know a lot of questions asked are about elmiron. Some doctors say ok and others say there isn't enough research.
I know in the end whatever you decide to do, it will be for the best. And I wish you a happy, healthy baby...

i don't think i had ic with while i was preg. but i did have pyelonephritis and alot of uti's and was in the hosp alot so that is why i'm not sure.
however with my first baby they gave me lortab 5's after the 1st three mths second baby only tylonal and third the same.
and my second baby was the wrost.
sorry i'm not much help here with ic and preg.
