does anyone get flares around their periods that last a week or longer?or maybe if you think you are not doing too bad, along comes your period to set off a bad flare that may last who knows how long?that's what happens to me.i am 44 and at my age i'm sure i must be in perimenopause.my periods are still pretty regular but are shorten in length and duration.i wish i knew how to control hormones that are causing these flares.my doctor doesn't say anything.

you can try a birth control pill that you can take continuosly, many with IC do that to prevent flares around periods

have you talked to your doc about estrogen cream used vaginally? I have had months long bouts of IC symptoms (frequency burning spending the nite in the bathroom) but I think my problem was largely hormonal. I am on estrogen cream and a low dose bcp and I use vitamin E suppositories and am much more comfortable (KNOCK WOOD!!!!) . The bladder and vagina are extremely estrogen sensitive and discomfort there can be a sign of dropping hormones long before you cycle gets screwy. Like a canary in a coal mine I read. I am 45

I am 67 and the first med my UroGyn put me on was Estrogen Vaginal cream everynight. He said to be sure the Urethra had some on it too as it is estrogen dependant. It really helps.

I'm so glad that I found this thread! I'm 46 and my periods are still very regular. I can tell it's coming on because my bladder goes crazy just before it comes on! I didn't know that estrogen cream could help( I just happen to have some laying around the house). I definitely think that some flares are caused by hormones, at least that's what my uro told me.

Best Wishes,
