I am NOT looking forward to this procedure. I'm just having the one with topical numbing gel. Not full on anesthesia. I know they won't find anything, but I KNOW it will make me flare, burn, and pee razor blades. I only have urethra burning which gets worse when off IC diet, but I'm hoping I finally get put on Elmiron and maybe Elavil to help the healing process since I'm at the very beginning of this journey. It started 2 months ago. Totally healthy until that.

What can I expect from the cysto? I'm soooo nervous. I'll be by myself.

I had my first, and hopefully last cystoscopy without anesthesia yesterday, and it hurt like someone was stabbing my inside with thousands of knives. I don't want to scare you, but that's what it felt like to me. They said it normally doesn't hurt, but apparently I'm not normal. :(

Can't you call them and ask for some sedation or anesthesia? If not, I'd advice taking some painkillers before you go. I could barely walk afterwards and was crying while I walked to the bus because it hurt so badly.

Good luck.

I had my first cystoscopy this afternoon. There was a little stinging at first, but the procedure wasn't bad at all. The first few trips to the bathroom burned like crazy but it's already easing up some. The Dr. also prescribed three days of antibiotics. I was nervous, too. I took an Ativan beforehand, though!

I was very scared when they did mine too. Scared of how horribly painful the procedure would be and scared in anticipation of what the after-effects were going to be from having it done.

It wasn't comfortable, even hurt somewhat with the insertion, but wasn't anything I couldn't handle. After-wards I was a bit irritated but not so bad that I couldn't take advantage of being in a city to do some shopping. About 24 hours later I was pretty much back to normal.

I've heard many others say that it's best to relax when they do this procedure and I really believe that's true.

Let us know how it goes for you tomorrow!

Well, as luck would have it, our insurance didn't recieve our check yet, and it was suspended at the end of the year. So until they get our check (today probably) I would of had to of paid 1200 bucks for the procedure! I said, I'll reschedule for next week. The dr took pity on me and talked to me though, and he agreed that it sounds like I have IC. He then prescribed me Evalin (sp?) and Elmiron. I was thrilled with that as that was my hope to begin with. This just started and is mild, so I'd like to undo the new damage asap with the Elmiron. I hope they both work. I'll go back for a cysto, but it was nice not having to go through a flair afterwards as I'm feeling ok today.

i can't even do instills so there is no way that i could be as brave as you!!! i did use a uro jet after one of the instills and it was a HUGE help. i just put it in about 10mins before the first pee. they should even have left over from the procedure, so they may just give you that one.
