Hello everyone,

I am new, and very very glad I found you. Who knew, all this time this wonderful IC family was here to inspire, comfort, and support eachother. Your posts are amazing, I've been really touched by some of them. I wish so much I had found you sooner. Handling this alone has made me bitter and cynical, and I hate that.
My symptons got significantly worse three years ago after my son was born. I had been taking tylenol 3 for fifteen years, without relief-(Tried dmso, elmiron, and 5 hypergastric nerve blocks-) I didn't even know what a flare up was when I went to the emergency room one morning after a night of torture-I thought it must be a burst appendix to hurt this much- I was there for 12 hours!!! After a manual vaginal exam- I almost passed out, then a vaginal sonogram- I had to stop her in the middle of it, and every test known to mankind ($7000.00 worth) They concurred with me that it was just the IC, and said I was lucky, it could be worse, and sent me crawling out of the hospital.
Last week, I went the gyno to talk about maybe regulating my hormones, since I've read that they can affect IC- and during my routine exam, without even asking me or telling me he insersts this new birth control device, called nuvaring-said it would change my life, and I would love him for it. Well this triggered the worst flare up I've ever had. I spent all night trying to get the thing out-finally got it out the next day, and have been in bed ever since. I'm on methadone for pain which usually really helps, but not right now.
Nice to meet all of you. Hope I didn't go on too long- you are all amazing.
Diane

I wanted to add my welcome. Any Dr. who would do something like that without telling me he was doing it would be my former Dr. I don't go for stuff like that. Maybe it is time to find a uro and a new gyno.:grouphug:

Hello, Diane and :welcome: Glad you found us.

Are you serious...your doctor inserted a device into you without your consent? What nerve...:cussing: I am at a loss for words. Actually, I'm not but I do not think the ICN would let it pass if I told you what I really think of that idiot. I am boiling right now so, I think I had better sign off and calm down. I hope you begin to feel better soon. :kissing:

I have to agree that seeing a different doctor for an opinion could be the best alternative for you.

Have you talked to your doctor about a referral to a pain specialist?

Warm hugs,
Donna

I concur with everyone who's already posted ... get a new doc pronto. Anyone who inserts a device without your consent should not be your doctor. Not only is it rude, it is a potentially dangerous practice!!

By the way, :welcome: to the ICN :) :)

I am overwhelmed at all the responses and comments I've received since I posted my story just a few hours ago!! Somehow I feel better just relating a story to people who really understand exactly what this feels like. Thank you for all of your comments and good wishes.

My pain increased around the same time I started using the Nuva Ring as well! Great idea - but maybe for people with complete bladders...

Welcome Diane!

Yes, that sounds like a horror story if there was one! Yikes! You poor thing! :(

I have found that my IC/VV has improved dramatically since going to a continuous form of birth control (with periods only 4 times a year -- similar to Seasonale) but I know that option does not work for everyone.

Good luck getting a new doctor and I hope you feel better soon!
