Destiny, I answered on your other post. Please call here at the ICN, or call the ICA, or get out your phone book & call the major teaching hospitals to find a new doctor. It doesn't sound like your current dr. is helping you. Even if you have to drive an hour or two to go to a new dr., it will be worth it.

There are many successful treatments for IC out there. There are several different meds for bladder instills, there are several different oral meds, & as I said on your other post, there is physical therapy. Find a physical therapist who just specializes in pelvic floor problems. Get out the phone book & call places & ask. Google urologists in your area & call their offices & ask if they treat alot of IC patients & how.

Become your own advocate or enlist a close family member or friend to go with you & to make calls to different urology offices. Check out urogynecologists-alot of people see that type of dr. for their IC. It is hard to do all this yourself when you are feeling so ill. That's why you need help if you are not up to it.

For now, call your urologist & ask for a script for pyridium (take only a few days) or urised. Pyridium has helped me with that awful burning. Also, go and give a urine sample for culture & analysis. You may have an infection. As I said, I also wrote at your other post. Feel better soon!

Destiny,

I also live in NC and there are quite a few very good IC Dr's here. Let me know where you live and I can give you the name of a few. I live in the Charlotte area but I drive to Winston-Salem to see my Dr. I know of a good one in Burlington and there are also several in Charlotte as well. I am sorry to tell you this but your Dr is just plain wrong that there are no Dr's in NC that deal with IC. NC has one of the top IC Dr's in the country, Dr Evans at Wake Forrest. If you can't see him, there are others that can help. Also, some see him to set up a treatment plan and then have their local Dr's monitor them. I would move on to another Dr. You need someone with compassion to help you with this. Not someone that appears to be very dismissive. You can PM me if you like and I will try to help you find someone to help you.

Destiny it looks like between my daughter and the two ladies that just posted we've covered NC! I hope one of these can be the solution for you. I've sent you a private message with contact info for myself and my daughter. Please, check into these options posted from NC women.
You do NOT have to be treated like this doctor is treating you... it sounds like he's not treating you, he's dismissing you!
Hope to hear from you soon!

Hi destinyjewell,

So sorry you have this disease. Since your doctor does allow some pain meds there may be hope to educate him/her to just how painful this disease is. Perhaps you could find some studies from respected medical websites that discuss the pain, get some stories from this website with actual IC patients in pain and print out or better yet put together a link sheet to email or hand to them. Ask the doctor to please take some time and look into this disease for you, use the approach that you know how much he/she cares about you as a patient and you know how busy they are etc. With some luck and information perhaps your doctor will understand how bad the disease is and be more aggressive.

I wish you luck.
